Default 250SE Tail drift with spartan quark

hi all
i have a problem, my new 250se with spartan quark have a tail drift to right of 5° in 1-2 minutes, the hely is new as the tail, perfect, with push rod not flexing
spektrum dx6i, gain 65%, uniball of tail servo at 6 mm, hyperion ds11 gcb 0.05 sec
i use 1 mm foam pad, i fix 5 cm of gyro wires
i don't know what i can do

I have the same issue with my 250SE except I have the Sparton 760. The tail drifts about 5 degrees in about 45 seconds. It does however hold the tail firm when giving maximum collective.

i just put the quark on my se yesterday and it's flying perfect, i used just 1 thin pad, because i was told more than that makes it wag, my gyro is set to 62 in my dx6i...is your servo horn centered? what servo do you have?

I would suggest you have some vibrations you need to track down...

If a gyro like the quark is drifting, it is most likely to be due to vibration masking the drift it in my opinion. I assume gain is as high as you can get it without wagging?

I'm glad to hear some people with the best tail gyro and the new SE are having tail drift. (Makes us non-se buyers not feel so bad. ~_^ )

For my non-se with clone 401 gyro and DS290G servo, when my heli starts to drift, I give it a good whack on the sticks for rudder doing a quick piro and the drift goes away.

Kinda like when a baby cries, you shake em enough and they stop ... err wait I didn't mean that.

Like previously mentioned vibration could definitely be a factor. Also make sure your not using any rudder sub trim. As far as setup goes I always set my tail with some pitch and hover it in rate mode first, then I switch over to HH mode. I'm using the stock gyro/servo combo and my tail is rock solid.

I will have to look into a vibration issue. I must say it does not really bother me all that much I am more curious than anything. I run a JR 290 with a Futaba T7C and sparton 760. My gain is 7%. around 10% or higher I get a wag. As I said before even at 7% with full collective the tail is solid.

I have a Spartan 760 on my V1 (which has all the SE upgrades).

Also a 3500G tail servo and, of course, KBDD tail blades)

Absolutely no drift, no wag, and a very solid performing tail.

I agree with those that suggested that there might be a vibration issue.

The cable to the gyro might be a bit too restrained as well.

It's also a good idea to rebind your receiver after any changes to your tail center or after a new set up. The gyro may be expecting one center and the set up or receiver is using another causing drift.

the version SE is perfect, with best gyro is so more, not have any problem of drift
my gyro has a problem?? bohhh
is a mechanical problem?? no, my tail is as from manual
is a setup problem? no i used the quark manual instruction
the ely is stable, tracking perfect, noting visible vibration
is all new, never a crash

what is???:t hinking

Yeah, go back to your "20$ dollar gyro the tail doesn't have any drifts" and enjoy flying your 250.

I wonder what the dead-band is on the gyro you are using is? I think this would contribute to the drift issue most definitely. the 3500G had no dead-band thus will correct for any drift of the servo due to mechanical forces. the JR ds290 has the same 0 dead-band.

I want to find out what the DS420 has as a dead-band.

I looked and cannot locate any info on the align servo's relating to dead-band. I think that coupled with tail linkage slop will cause the drift we have in the 250 tail.

Upgrading the tail with metal bell crank, better grip bearings and a CF control rod will improve control and reduce drift, I think adding the weight mod and using a tail servo with 0 dead-band would fix most if not all tail issues. I am almost all the way there myself, tail servo and weight mod's are about all that is left. Now do not get me wrong my tail is pretty solid but does experience some drift albeit minor, I have the bell crank coming today so I will find out more this weekend when I fly her again.

Weather is supposed to be above freezing, mid 30's, so I will be out buzzing around

I have seen other people who use rate mode to set up their gyro and then switch to HH. Why do you do this?

It is because you want the tail to be mechanically perfect. If the tail doesn't drift in rate mode then the gyro doesn't have to work as hard. Some gyros require you to setup in rate mode with no drift. It doesn't have to be perfect with no drift in rate mode.

So if your tail was perfect with a $20 gyro why spend $170+ on the Quark???

What tail servo are you using. The DS420 was appalling with my quark and I could not get it to hold without wag or drift. Changed tail servo and now it is solid as a rock.

Have you tried ca'ing the gyro tray in on 1 side as mine was causing a slight vibe.

because with a 20$ gyro the tail is perfect only in hover lol
while with quark is perfect in all, less that in hover
i try to use align gel with align band to reduce vibration
i set the gyro in rate mode then i switch to avcs
i try think and thin pad, but nothing
tail is new and also the model
