I don't know if I would want my heli to do this, but it could make one heck of a failsafe for a FBL system. Loose signal, the heli does it best to maintain position until signal is reestablished, if signal is not reestablished in a set time, it will attempt to set down and shut the motor off.

The DJI GPS add on for the NAZA controller which has return to home as well as position hold is about $170 and is shipping to retailers this week.
For those that don't know, we use the NAZA controllers on DJI's 330, 450, and 550 Flame Wheel Quad and 6 leg Hecto copters. They are truely amazing units to fly either in their manual mode or the "Ati" mode. The NAZA controllers are $239.

But the DJI NAZA doesn't work for Heli, or I would have ordered an extra set for my Heli.

closest thing to it i guess is the "Revolectrix hard deck" it has a 50 foot barrier that if the heli drops below 50 feet it automatically levels it out and climbs back to the 50 foot level..

Me too. I would imagine they're working on one, hopefully.

On R/C Mania site it is listed at $800 usd> For a 550 to 800 ship may be cost effective for a lot of people at which time the price may drop to $500 which is now comparable to other high end units.
Just the hands off / come home feature may save your bird! ( thats if you have any power left in the battery)
