I have been auto rotatig for the past month, some times I brign to heli right to me but lately I have been coming in alot further then I want to. Any tips on landing where I want it to? I usually auto nose in so the aproach is in front of me, Im also killing the throttle with the nose a bit dipped down.
Just looking for some advice.

quit for a couple weeks then go back to it. When you come back, don't think about it and just land the heli. You'll probably find that you just have a mental block to get through...the time off should help that.

Bring it down and hold it in the spot you want until the HS bleeds off to the point it won't stay in the air any more.
Start your auto, do a direction change then hold it off as long as you can. You will get it pretty quick when you start the direction changes.

Try to auto from the side, either left or right. With practice, you should be able to flare for the final landing a few feet in front of you. Nose in auto is difficult.
Nose pointing down during auto is BAD. You want to have the nose slightly pointing up with negative pitch (how much -ve pitch depends on how fast you want the heli to sink) to build up headspeed during descend.

It's a lot easier to stretch an auto than to slow it down. So try to land it short of yourself and stretch it the rest of the way. You may have more forward speed than you need. A big helicopter doesn't need much at all. I know that is my big fault with my autos now.. for whatever reason I think I need high forward speed and that's just not true.

Im no good at nose in autos. I crashed teh 450 today doing one, I wanted to come toward myself fast, auto, and skid along the ground. I hit th and completely dumbthumbed it because im not used to nose in landings.
My typical 550 autos are for maximum float, I still dont land it next to myself but I retake off and do a baby auto closer to myself or inbetween me and the pits if nobodys there. |
