Anyone see the new Enerco 500 review in RC Heli?
It actually got a really good review.
Looks like a nice design, just needs good electronics. |

Unfortunately, all helis in RC Heli get good reviews, so you can't go by that. It does look nice and if they have made quality improvements like we are seeing on the 4#3's and 4G3's, then it looks to be quite promising!

It's actually a really nice heli! We will hopefully be stocking it shortly plus all parts. Walkera is starting to step it up...the electronics aren't too shabby anymore. The 60#B and Creata 400 are solid also.

I have a 60B and a H1#b, and I like the moving flybar design. This new Enerco 500 looks like a nice design. Personally I built my 60B from a chassis using Hitec servos and Futaba radio and gyro with Castle Creations RX and BEC, and an Elf Hobbies Brushless...
I have had good luck with my Walkera electronics on the H1#b though. I think I would like to see the Enerco sold as a chassis without electronics! |

A barebones kit may come down the pike actually. Walkera sees Align's success and should be moving in that direction. They've done it with the 60#B so....

WalkeraUS... how would you compare/contrast the Enerco 500, Creata 400, and 60#B?
The 60#B is a bit confusing... some stores are selling the 60#B V2 7 Channel (heli has yellow and white blades); some stores are selling the 60#B V2 6 Channel (heli has "zebra" blades)... which is the newer version? |

Steve,
The 60#B with the zebra stripe is the premium edition (brushless) that comes with the wk-2801 8 ch. transmitter and is the newer model. The yellow blades are the standard 60#B 2.4 GHZ with the standard motor. The premium edition is an awesome value. They both use the 2701 receiver. The Creata 400 and 60#B are the same size (give or take a few mm). The 60#B uses a tradional CCPM configuration where the Creata 400 uses a PPM configuration (a single servo on the belly of the heli controls the pitch). It's all preference. The Premium 60#B (zebra stripe) and the Creata share the same motor. I prefer the Creata myself...I like the independent system. The Enerco 500 is in a league of its own. It's 300mm bigger. It's Walkera's step into the 500's. I would assume it would be a bit easier to fly than either of the above helis. I don't have all the numbers yet, but I'll post them when I get them.

Here's a secret to magazine reviews....if you know of a new product that is supposedly the latest greatest hot product....and you don't see it mentioned anywhere - there is good reason for it. It probably has some problems in its initial release. People accuse magazine editors of playing to advertisers, but page space is expensive and one has to decide whether to spend that space on lousy products or one that has an initial release problem or spend it on one of the many other great products out there. Read between the lines - if it's new and being hyped and you don't see it written up someplace then there is a reason for it. I had a flight instructor years ago at Ft Rucker who told me "don't fly an "A" model anything" and sometimes that goes for our model products too. I have an early release Blade CX3 that was nothing but trouble, but the others I've flown have been good. I got a lemon of the early release, but it's been fixed and Horizon stood behind it. I think the reviews in RC Heli are as good as any you'll find anyplace and I say that as a writer for a different magazine (Model Aviation)

Chris,
The numbers I'm getting from Walkera put it in the T-rex 450 CF range (setup and ready to fly). It will most likely start out around $650-$675. From what I've seen and heard, this thing is gonna be pretty cool out of the box. Looks like they approached this one a little different...going more for quality. It will probably be tough to get only because most of the Walkera dealers are used to $200-$300 helis. I'll post when we get more info about when we'll have them.

The Enerco is not widely available... not many stores carry it. RCHobbyHelicopter.com has it listed on their site. Personally, I would stay away as I don't think Walkera yet has the quality of materials necessary for these larger types of helis. I also doubt that Walkera will come out with a barebones kit... it is typically not their approach.
