Hello all.
Please let me introduce myself. I am Neil, and looking into getting with turbine heli, so
I hope I could gather as much info as I can before taking the jump. I have been involved with heli and other aspects of RC modeling for years, so I thought it is time to bite the bullet and get into turbine heli, as this is the only few things in the RC field that I have not get my hands on yet. So, thanks in advance for all the future help that you gents may give.

Hi, I can help with some advice if you want. I no longer have a turbine heli...sold both my large helis (one was a gasser) after deciding I had had enough..but I still have an interest in the hobby. Still got a Trex 450

Biggest help is to get an airframe and engine unit thats well known...nothing wrong with an adventure if you have some prior experience...but you got to know whats available for spare parts etc...nothing worse than a heli or engine that you cant get parts for.

Turbines are very easy to look after, common practices being adhered to...clean filtered fuel...looking after your battery packs and religously checking the airframe/engine over after every flight.
I have been tempted to get back into large helis, and must say the Turbine would be the attraction. I would probably go with the Trex 700/Wren 44 route.

I used to own a Century Predator (two if you include the gasser...this had the zenoah 231) the Turbine was a Wren MW54 in kit form...a joy to build and operate. You cant get this engine from Wren now, though I am sure parts are still available. The Predator was a great heli to fly...though the Condor length blades and boom etc are the ideal. The TRex 700 seems happy with its standard size blades with the Wren 44.

Wait for further advice, the guy that posted before me would be the best bet, to show you first hand the Turbine experience. Good luck, you will have a ball

Definitely will need all the help I can get. Placed an order for the Mag 44 with Bergen. It seems like this kit is the most economically priced for turbine. All I can do now is sit on my hands and wait until it arrives.

I also just bought the HeliCommand HC3-SX unit from one of the member here. Now, I have another item to wait for. Dunno about you guys, but waiting sux..
Do you think this gyro system is good? I have read quite a bit, and it seems like it is a good system.

The Helicommand unit? hmmm....I could be way out of whack here, but I remember reading up on some units suffering interference from Turbine systems...something to do with harmonics?

Like I said, I could be way off the mark...but sure I read of such issues some years ago. Do check up on this.

Sounds good though, Bergen did scrape through my mind a couple of times before now....look to be nice helis. The Wrens? pointless saying about these! they really are gems.

Thank you for the tip. Yes I did read up quite a bit about this unit and two stages turbines. I called Esprite Models and talked with an expert there in regards about it. Apparently, Captron makes a shroud that goes over the device to eliminate the high freq noises. Also, I looked all over and it seems like most issues and crashes that related to gyro systems and two stage turbines may have something to do with front facing engines and carbon fibre frames. I really am not sure, and probably wont ever know if that is true. I'm sure many would disagree, but that's from reading and asking around. I have not seen many of the Bergen Magnum 44 suffered this issues on a few forums. Again, it's just my readings so far. It doesn't mean that it won't happens with mine when it actually gets here and built.

Hey Neil, looks like you're at the same place I'm at. Been messing around with everything helicopter for so long, thinking it'll soon be time to try out some RC turbine stuff. Nothing like the high pitched whine of a gas turbine engine and the smell of burning Jet-A Good luck with your endeavor!

Yes sir. LOL Its about the only whine I could, and will tolerate. When it does, everything else seems to vaporize in the exhaust smell of kerosene. Thank you for the wishes. I am sitting on an ants hill waiting for it to arrive.
