After reading the article it seems like a sideways step. They said the energy density wasn't any better than LiPo and wouldn't necessarily be any cheaper.

well if they are more stable/safe that could be a major plus.

Big if, considering how sodium reacts to water.

More likely they are doing this because there is a lot more sodium that is relatively easy to get (can get it from salt) compared to the amount of lithium, which is somewhat restricted.

more that mining rare earths can only be done in china atm >.> thanks EPA
