Crashed and they Tricked me!
So I had a very mild crash yesterday with my 450x. Still a newbie and I was trying to do a bunch of rolls and I lost orientation and saw it heading for the dirt. I didn't try to save it since I didn't really know where it was in the air and didn't want to plow it in, so I just hit TH and watch it float very softly over a nice grassy area.
At first glance it looked like their was barely any damage! Blades didn't even get a scratch on them which surprised me! Ended up with a bent spindle and a couple missing teeth on the main gear. Main shaft might be bent, I haven't taken it out yet. One of the servos also has some stripped gears, doh! So I thought I had everything I needed to get back in the air with all my 4503D parts, but the spindles are different! They tricked me! So for anyone who was like me and thought all of those 4503D parts will work on the 450X, read the parts list again! There are a handful of new parts for the 450X, like spindles and mainshafts! So your 450X crash kit will need a few new spares that won't be left over 4503D spares! At the end of the day it was a good learning experience and hopefully when my new parts arrive I can have it back in the air quickly! I've decided that I need to slow down the learning curve a little mainly to save my wallet! Goal is 50+ flights before another crash, which I can do if I slow down some and just stick to FFF and very light inverted stuff. I'm more upset that I won't be able to fly until the end of the week when my parts come in! |

As you say, the parts numbers are different, and the head is a flybarless head, which of course is different than the stock 450. It could have gone either way. And I don't believe HH ever claimed that all or any parts were interchangeable. I can understand your pain! Last edited by ahahn; 04-16-2012 at 09:25 AM.. Reason: add quote |

yea I know they didn't really trick me. The fault was all my own!
I just wanted to let other noobs, like myself, know that not all 4503D parts will work with the 450X. I wish I had a LHS that had 450X parts but I don't, so I have to wait for them to get here! and the weather is going to be so good to!!! |

Pretty much everything from the mainshaft above the frame is 450X specific. The frame, gears, blocks, tail, etc, are shared with the 450 3D. Ohh, and motor and beastx of course. I think the ESC might be bigger too. But pretty much just count on anything from the main-shaft up to be different.

you could cut and drill your 3d main shaft to match your X shaft.
Just take your time. I've done it on my fbl converted helis, i wanted to lower the head.

hmm, Im wondering if I did the same thing.
After my crash I had damage on the main gears, I looked at the main shaft and though it looked straight I didn't wanna take any chances since the feathering shaft was also a twisted S. A few weeks prior I ordered 2 (what I believe was) 450x main shafts but some some reason the new shafts did not fit in the one-way bearing collar...they seem only slightly thicker. |

if you want to check if your main shaft is straight.
remove the head remove the tail blades be careful spool it up and see if it's straight, you'll easily be able to tell.

Yep I am waiting on a spindle for my 450X too, can't fly it till it arrives later in the week. I ordered 2 sets but they were 450 3d ones oops. The main stafts are different too. Oh and those head blocks bend in crashes. one inverted landing I took out the swash cause the main shaft bent enough ouch.
Still love this heli and its easy to repair with the parts handy |

Just a note:
IF a Blade Part # has a "43" prefix (ie., BLH4347)....that past is UNIQUE TO THE 450X.... NOT interchangeable with the 450 3D!! As a GENERAL rule....if a part # has a "16" prefix (ie., BLH1649).....THAT part IS good for BOTH the 450 3D AND the X..... ALL part #s are listed at the back of the Blade heli manual...... |
