Default Align servo wheel question

Anyone running the Align DS 6XX servos in the Knight 600E?

Which servo wheels are prefered for the build? Aftermarket wheels or one included with the servo.
Thanks!

Justin

The Align wheels put the balls too far out unless you drill them to bring the balls closer, which kind of defeats the purpose. I used the standard Futaba six-point star horns on my Knight 3D (Futaba S9452 servos). Basically, any wheel that has holes approximately 11mm from the center are OK; I'd recommend a wheel or horn with ball mounting points at least every 90 degrees so that you can keep your subtrims at a minimum.

Strongly recommend the QuickUK wheels in CNC - they're pre-drilled for M2 thread - the Align wheels tend to grind down their splines on the metal output shaft of the 6$0 series servos and you can get an alarming shift in gear on wheel mid flight - had to land a T700 once with the aileron half deflection just to keep S+L

Only thing about them is that they are an interference fit and so best to get them aligned right before drawing them down with the output shaft screw

I'm always wary of metal servo arms. If the servo arm can't break in a crash, there's a good chance the servo will.

What do you mean intermitent fit? Also I'm not sure that the Align DS have metal output shafts. I would think with the low price they would be plastic?

FYI, Richard @ JaxRC uses those servos on his Knight 600e.

I said interference fit - that is an engineering term for pretty darn tight ! - You would think wrong - the whole gear train of the DS610/620 is metal.

Well the Align wheels give me 13.3mm, the crosses (4 point and six point) give me either 9.55 or 12.55. Which would you go with to achieve the 11mm? The 9.55 would be the closest to the 11mm.

In farther gives torque - further out gives speed.

SO you'd go with which one?

On one of the 600e's I have I used the Align wheels and drilled new holes to get 11mm distance. Not exactly the answer you wanted but it will work.

I went with 13mm on mine - its very fast like that but I had plenty of torque but not the best speed with the servos I'm using. On my K3D I'm at 11mm with Bls451 - but they are fast and have good torque for a 50.
