Default Anyone using an Ikon on your Gasser?

Anyone has the Ikon on your gasser? Have you used the Self Level? How do you have the Ikon mounted?

Thanks!

Yes I am , another guy in my field is too

No have not tried the self level on this bird

It's mounted using the "Milton" method . Zeal tape, fuel tubing and zip ties . Works well.

Nice setup! Looks like self level will not work with just a layer of tape like that. Are you using the gov with gassergator?

It'll be nice to find out up high though if the

self level would work using that Milton mod.

Do you use the internal gov? Gassergator?

I believe the OP is trying to figure out if self level will work with his gasser. Besides the self level, everything on the ikon work flawlessly. If your trying to find a unit with a reliable bailout feature I'd look into the Bavarian demon, although I don't know how well that works on gassers either.

I'd be curious to know how you have the sensor placed, I've spent hours trying to get it to work with no luck.

Two Magnets drilled into the main gear on opposite ends with an align pick up sensor. Simple, reliable.. Gear ratio of 1.0

If you see in the ikon thread, I did have a wierd issue, that my sensor was "too close" to the magnets , so sensor would pick up south on both.. Giving double rpm readings, and I just spaced it a bit, and that fixed my issue. THATS IT. It is tried and tested in so many other models, so it works well here too.

No, just a single layer of 3M tape.

if you are looking for a good SL and rescue, forget the ikon and use the BD. bite the bullet and use an external gov, the SL and rescue on the BD will work on the gasser hands down, no questions asked. (provided you don't have a horrible vibration or a motor with bad balance or something....) the ikon does work well for a gasser, but I don't know about the SL function. I have never tried it with a gasser. I had a scary incident a year or so ago with an electric I tried it on, so I don't trust it. I still fly one on my night rig, but I don't use SL at all....

Hey LoveToFly1,
I know you are talking to the op but,

I understand what you mean. If a unit is needed with the best rescue then BD should be used. As you are saying an external governor is needed as well but you know an external receiver is needed too. For me simplicity is more important than SL/rescue. I use the ikon (and V-Bar on my other heli) standalone. No external governor and no receiver so I save lots of room for my generator stuff.

On the other hand, I find iKon governor works better than GV-1.

yup, I was. and I do see your point too. if you don't want/need the rescue function, I would tell you use the IKon all day long. with its internal gov, that cuts down on the complexity a lot. I personally cant say how they fly on a gasser, but I like they way it flys on the electric I have it on.

I like simple and I need rescue. So do you guys think that even with the Milton mount the self level on the ikon would still be unreliable?

It depends on the heli and the motor you are using I believe.

also, Ikon doesn't have rescue....it only has SL. it will not snap level inverted and add pitch. it will only roll to upright, its up to you to add pitch...

Going level would be enough for me. My bd3sx taught me how to fly.

I want to use the ikon because of the gov and SL.

@azalin
I think the engine on my r90 is a g126 with the Hanson mod. I bought the heli used a couple of months ago and I haven't fired it up yet.

Do you think that engine has a lot of vibration?
