Default Help me decide.. 300X or 300CFX?

Hey HF'ers,

I want to move up from my 130x. The 300CFX looks nice, but is it worth $400 no battery?

A: where are people finding the 300X for anything less than $320? I keep seeing numbers in the $200's but a google search turns up no such deals.

B: if I were to buy the 300X, what upgrades are recommended that will keep me under about $425 (same price as stock CFX). New motor, servos, swash, frame, tail issues?

C: assuming I am ok spending around $400, what would you do in my situation? Buy the 300x + upgrades, or wait 3 months (ugh) for a CFX?

D: stop messing around and go 450X..

Thanks! I hope to be on this sub-forum much more frequently very soon.

Me, for that $$ go 450X. You'll need some upgrades like servos and possibly motor (many posts on these) but the 450x flies great. Parts and battery costs etc. not much different.

I am just not sure on the 450 X size. 300X is already too big to fly in my back yard, so I will have to find a field somewhere.. and if that is the case, why not larger huh?

Well, I found this mysterious discounted deal I have heard about. ultimatehobbies dot com. $232 shipped This is the same site people are getting the 450X for $350 shipped.

For this price, I see a 300X in my very near future. I can get new blades, frame, motor, and servos, and still come in around $420, and arguably be better off than a 300 CFX (because of better motor/servos, right?). Does that make sense to those with experience in the 300X platform?

I am assuming this was used? I am not interested in used, I have gone that route and wasn't happy. Who knows what kind of crash damage or flight hours are on a used bird. Not to say you CANT get a good used bird, just that I am not willing to risk it.

I own a 300X only because I am an addict and lack internet purchasing discipline. That said my 300X is 50 plus flights with zero issues and zero upgrades. And I really enjoy flying it.

But,....IMHO the 300x is a very unnecessary helicopter.

So, my vote is that you narrow it down to two choices...the 450X for around $340 shipped to your door or the 300 CFX.

Create an account and the following 450X goes into your cart at $349.99

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...opter-w-BeastX

Coupon code 143OC2 takes $25 off this price

Add in around $17 of economy shipping and you have a very nice FBL helicopter plus battery for just over $340.00

Then, in three months buy the 300 CFX and you will have two really nice helicopters.

For me the 300x will be my "micro" heli after I ditch me last 130x. I have upgraded the servo's, esc, and motor (and slant gear) and installed the frame brace. Plenty of info about the quality of the servo's and motor on the 300x. I was not going to suffer a crash because of these and replaced them before the first flight. Its a cheap heli to crash/fix yet still can do plenty of moves.

I fore see a lot of cheap 300x's on ebay(without the AR7200) in the near future and then they will be gone. If you get one just buy a few extra plastic frames.

Yep. I am waiting for my Feb 13 paycheck to click "check out" I hope they aren't sold out by then. NOBODY go buy one before then, ok?

I am just going to swap out the blades for Lynx blades and go from there, upgrading as things break or when I am unable to control the urge to click "buy now" again in the future

I am just too scared to make the jump from 130 to 450. A few months time on the 300, and I will be ready to get in line for the 450CFX (Or an even deeper discounted 450X). That, and I want another Traxxas Slash 4x4. Those things are stupid fun

You should get the 450x. Its a good heli. Lots of people start out learning on a 450. There's no more reason to be scared of the 450x than the 300x. But its your money.

Oh, I will. But in the mean time (they may announce in the next few months, then late summer availability??), I will be practicing up on my $230 300X Which, coincidentally, is less than what I paid for the 130X..

If I had it to do over, I'd have saved my money instead of buying the 300. I do like it for the most part... after lynx main and tail blades, frame stiffener, and align tail bits. I went from the nano cpx right to the 300. Few days later I got a 450x for a price I couldn't say no to. I'm pretty new to the "larger" birds, and I think learning on the 450 may be a bit easier. It just feels a lot better with plenty of head room to grow your skill for a while without feeling like you need more.
But that's just my take. Any others who feel this way?

Man, now I am wavering again I suppose I will see what kind of money I have in a few weeks, and make the decision then. $230 vs $350. I also just submitted my tax return, so now I will have more money burning a hole in my pocket, just waiting to be handed over to Blade/Traxxas/Lynx/Microheli etc It might be cheaper to just go get hooked on smack lol.

I resemble that... but I don't have a 300x. I opted to buy a big brother to my 450x fleet, a 500x. Anyways, hilarious! lol

That's an awesome deal. Wow. I'm glad I have 2 450x and a third airframe... otherwise I would buy another!

Two things:

1 the 300CFX is waste of money. It has the same junky crap electronics and the same crap motor as the 300X. You'll end up spending more because you'll still have to upgrade all the crap. You can buy a 300X + the upgrades you'll need and if you want a Lynx CF frame and have a better heli than the 300CFX.

Likely the Lynx CF is better quality the Blade frame will be anyway.

2. If you must buy Blade just get the 450 though you'll still have to upgrade the junk ekectronics and motor sooo… you'll still be out more money.

If it were me and I were looking for a BNF I'd just get the Align 450 Plus. No upgrades necessary to have a reliable and flyable heli.

You'll end up spending as much money just making the Blade stuff reliable and he end you still won't have a heli that performs as well as the Align 450 plus.
