Default Wren Wrookie,,,,,,,

Hello, I'm looking for a basic understanding, as I am clueless as you guys once were. I have an opportunity to own a S/H Wren heli turbine and looking for advice so I can avoid the major pitfalls, minor ones are always a part of the heli learning curve!

Please regard me as savvy in terms of setups, software programming, flying ability, to save time with your support Q's etc,,,,,

1, What would be the smallest heli suitable for turbines?

2, How do we select the correct power-plant relative to heli size?

3, I think answers to the above determines if I proceed or not.

Thanks in advance for any pointers,,,, georgi.

If you are talking about a Wren 44 then the easiest route is a Trex700.

This powerplant is the ideal size for the Trex, mine is stretched to 800 size which is cheap and easy to do.

Revolution Models used to do a conversion kit but don't think they do it any more. Still, not too difficult to make the 44 fit as the mounts on the turbine match the OS glow motor range and the trex fan just bolts on as the glow motor.

It does make for a very nice model.

Simon many thanks for your response so the idea being by the sound of it? physically the plant is fairly small, but needs to see a substantial load (blade size), is that correct?

On terms of 1-10, with say glider slope soaring being 1 to elec heli being 3 at the field, with nitro in terms of the field gear needed on the day, also the amount of mess they make, where roughly would you place a turbine?

Again thanks for your time.

There are plenty of 700 size vids on Youtube for you to look at.

I am putting the whole Trex700 into a Vario BO105 this winter. It is not an ideal powerplant for scale purposes with the exhausts coming out of the sides but I have a plan to disguise them. This will be circa 10kg with a 1900mm 4 blade disc which the 44 should easily handle.

Turbines are very easy to use with no mess. I have a large capacity turbine battery as the 2 stage turbines use a lot of starter power and with a large 25l fuel can and an extinguisher, I can fly all day. I wipe down at the end of the day, more to check the model over than clean up the non existent mess.

I love the noise and smell of the turbines, electric just does nothing for me.

Turbine operations are pretty easy. Fueling is much like a nitro, but other than that, it's like an electric.

Plug in your receiver and ECU bats (or flick a switch if so equipped) fiddle with the Tx to begin the startup sequence, monitor the start and once she's started, go fly.

Land before you run out of fuel.

Field equipment can be as simple as your fuel jug and a fire extinguisher. (Halotron or CO2. You do NOT want a chemical extinguisher!)
