Default Cc Bec on a 500 with a 3gx

Is it safe to power the 3gx from a CC bec. I was thinking about getting a cc bec pro, but I already have a new cc bec that I can use. It's going on a trex 500 elf

I would think it should work just fine. A lot of ESCs on larger helis do not have internal BECs, and all of Align's helis came with the 3GX for years -> so they were all being run off of external BECs. Have you heard rumors otherwise?

I use the cc bec with ar7200 and torq servos and it's been working fine. Use the castle link and up the voltage to whatever your servos can handle to keep the current draw down. Then bench test the hell out of it to be sure it doesn't brown out on you.

That's what I did on my 3Gx 500's - however I did cut the servo lead - solder a Y of servo leads - so the power is spread across the whole bus.......probably not necessary unless you run KST's or RJX or some other coreless power hungry bastards....

Edit - ' or use a mini V-bar....'

My 550 3Gx ran with the built-in BEC in the stock Align ESC -- I don't see why a 500 wouldn't.

Having said that, I didn't get on with the 3Gx so I installed a Microbeast instead.

I now use a CC BEC in tandem with the built-in BEC in a CC Talon 90 ESC (BECs isolated from each other by schottky diodes) in both my 500 and my 550.

I've read mixed reviews, I'm using DS510m's and a DS520 and a stock Align esc for now. I heard the stock align esc can have brownout problems. The CC bec is rated at 5 amps @ 24V 10 amps peak.

The 600L comes with an Edge 80HV, which doesn't have an internal BEC. I don't think any of the Pheonix/Edge HV ESCs have internal BECs, so you have to use an external BEC. That's all that I was trying to say.

Perfectly safe. If your plan is to upgrade to HV lipos then you better get the CC Pro as the CC 10A bec is limited to standard 6s voltage. Otherwise CC 10A + 3GX and ds510/520 is a smooth combination.

Your over thinking this - most fore-go the align bec and use something they know and trust - the castles - - have pretty good track record - that 10amp is fine for 515's..
Plus pulling that extra heat out of the main esc - seems to extend life of everything....

If you upped to kst, rjx, audacity servos- maybe then 20amp - for the hard core at heart....

Me thinks only safer/simpler alt is to go straight lifepo receiver pack - but if you're not use to them......could be ouch waiting there.......

Ok, I'm curious. ..how big a lipo pack for a 500 (425) size bird?
Been thinking about going this route for a while.

Are you asking how big a receiver pack should be?

I decided to get a cc bec pro and not take any chances. I'll go on with the 3gx setup on the esc bec until it arrives. I'm going to run the bec off the 6s

I have never heard of someone using a receiver pack with a Trex 500. Bec is the way to go.

You might find space to fit one but the added weight (or the subtracted weigth from the main pack) will eliminate all benefits. The best BEC you can find for this heli weights about 25gr, CC 10A is about 11gr.

I thought I had a cc bec 10a, but I think it was on the dji quad I lost in the lake a couple of months ago. I have a cc 20a on the way. I just didn't want to worry about resets on my 3gx.

Resets on 3GX are due to faulty internal connections or short with the case. The CC 10A is enough for the Trex 500 with 3GX and you shouldn't have any resets.
