Man, this is an awesome idea! I'd love it if my radio was just like an xbox controller except with switches where the triggers are.

Re the "not enough room for an LCD" question: how about if the controller had a bluetooth link to a smartphone app where you could tweak your settings, and then have only a small LCD in the middle of the controller to display voltage warnings and whatnot?

I imagine being able to change settings on your smartphone would be quicker and more intuitive than navigating through menus with a scroll wheel.

Sounds like this would be kickstarter gold for someone with the skills and time to develop this.

You may well have something there. I had considered taking the LCD "off premises" but pretty much melted down from there.

I still think there may be a bandwidth issue insofar as a lot of RC disciplines go and, it must be remembered, 3D heli RC isn't exactly as mainstream as many other choices.

...still it's intriguing.
