Default Best budget batteries?

Hey all - I've got a 500 ESP on the way (supposed to be here today!) and I'm looking for some battery advice. I am not into any 3D; just some circuits and mild sport flying at this point. Is there a reasonably priced pack out there that is reliable as well, and is not going to take a crap after only a few cycles? If I can buy 2 decent batteries for about the same price as one kick-a$$ pack, I'd rather go that route for now. Thanks for all input.

hobbyking.com shipping is slow but their batteries are perfect for learning/sport flying imho.

I have 2 of those Winn force Batts.... 1 is a 6s and the other is a 5s...wish I would of got both 6s
but it was and experiment anyway. They are GREAT ! No puffing and balance charge with no problems...
I just got a BLUE LIPO from Hobbbypartz in 6s and like it too....Even cheaper and no waiting for it to come in from HK !

I like these 3300's for long flight times... 7+ minutes at 100% idle up.. some prefer the 3000's or even the 2650's for lighter faster heli.

But.. they are all good! Look at the price!

What's the word on Zippy Flightmax vs. Turnigy on the 6S batteries?
Is one better than the other?

I did a lot of asking around.. even did a poll... (see below).. nearly 50 50... I just chose Turnigys for my 500 and 550. Cooler label.

I used the cheapies from HeliDirect for $80 each. The 6s 2500's. They are really fine with good power. You'll find in a hurry that 3s batteries suck. I went to the new Hyperion batteries and they were not that much more money and should last much longer and they have a lot more power.

I'd got 30C for sure... (and I like 3300mah for long flight times)

But here are the Turnigy 2650's... $47.00 each!

I am going to use the blue lipos. Ordered 2 30C 2200 6S and 2 30C 2650 6S from them and they arrived in 4 days. It will be a couple weeks before I get around to finishing this to see if I prefer the larger or smaller batteries.

My 20C turnigys puffed badly in just a couple of weeks of mild sports flying.

just for the heck of it, i had tried 2 3S 2200 pack's that were kinda on the way out, and they were only 20C, i got 4 min out of it doing some pretty moderate 3D and they were PUFFED like i never seen a pack puff before......

on the other hand i also have 2 3S 2200 turnigy pack's, but they are 35C, and i can get a good 4:30 almost 5 min of pretty aggressive flying with no puffing at all...

i've definatly had better luck with the turnigy pack's... even with the 600, i've consitantly gotten more power and cycle's with the turnigy pack's......

just my .02

It is my humble opinion that on a 500 class heli, anything under 30C is just not enough.

now THAT would be a pretty good choice... 40C and a 2650Mah... should get you in the area of 6 to 6:30 min depending on how you fly...maybe even longer if your style is quite reserved.....

Will any of the batteries we are "talking" about fit the Rex 500 without having to modify it?

The 3000 and 3300 will be a tight fit with the stock canopy. You can move the battery tray, or just try one of the Fusuno canopies that has a lot more room.
