I ran it on 5S for a month or so before I switched to 6S (didn't have a 6S charger at the time).

I used 5S ThunderPower/FlightPower 3300mAh packs but any pack of that size will do.

I run Revolectrix 5s 4200mAh batteries in mine with a 15t pinion.

Dropped the tray by about 1" all round and they sit in nicely between the frames on thier sides.

Heli balances perfectly (batteries weigh 472g), belt driven tail.

Very much a noob with my flying, but I can 'potter-around' for 8mins and put around 2800mA back in. Great to be able to charge 2 at a time on my Cellpro 10s charger.

Expensive batteries, but I am hoping thier reputation for longievty will outweigh the initial cost.

Hope this helps,

Paul.

Default 5s 35c

I have a 5s that has only 4 times at a hover and balance charged each time.
It is a 3000mAh and from what I have read many times here on the FREAK, 15t pinions on a 1600 or 1700kv motor will work great! I went to 6s and this 5s needs a good home!
PM me if intrested or?

I have been using 5s on my 500 for about a year. Initially with the stock 500 motor on 16t pinion, the headspeed was good but the motor ran very hot.

When the bearings failed, I put a 1900kv scorpion, running on 14t pinion the thing is a rocket. I have seen this can be run on 12t or 13t for more gentle / longer flights.

Using 3300 30c turnigy packs getting 4.30mins of loops / rolls / tick tocks etc, plus I can charge 2 packs at a time on my cellpro 10s

Default Reason I asked

The reason I asked was I am planning to make the heli my next purchase and I am in the planning stage. I have already built one for my uncle that he runs on 6s 2200mAh packs he uses in his 450. I have a 5S plank the I am using 4000mAh batteries in and was scheming to use the same packs in the t-rex 500. Orginally 5S was supposed to be the hot settup when the heli came out so I am feeling around to see what others are seeing. I do fly pretty hard 3D so I am not trying to build a beginners settup just maximize the use of my stuff.

How heavy are the 4000mah packs? the 3300' s I use weigh about 450g and the heli balances perfectly with a full size tail servo.

The 500 will lift the extra weight of the bigger pack but you may lose some 'pop'

I'm also running my 500 on a 5s 3000mah 20c pack with the scorpion 1900kv motor on the 14t pinion and I get about 8mins of flight time in normal mode.

The 4000 mAh batteries are 499g. My plank can use 3300-3700mAh also What is the minimum "C" rating you would recommend?

Depends on how much you're pushing it. Just hovering around, 20C will get you by, 25C - 30C for harder flying.
