Horrible tragedy.

Here's another release. I think some of the numeric facts are a ways off:

And THAT is why my 700 scares the crap out of me. God I love my micro's, much less injury.

Wow, that's scary two in a row? It really makes me nervous when my Dad fly's too close to himself.
Between these news, and the "drones", our hobby seems to be getting a bad rep.

Here is a link from the WSJ.

http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2013...n-in-brooklyn/

It is a tragic event, and sometime, somehow, we have to stop referring to a 700 sized helicopter as a "toy". No more need be said.

My prayers go out to his family.

Default Big or small... remember it is a deadly flying object.

Anything big or small....running or rotating specially in enormous speed can kill.

Always treat it like a gun that can cause injury/kill once you start spinning the blades.

Safety, safety, safety first.

My prayers to the family and the victim.

This is from another post, but I will post this here as well...

I don't believe so. Otherwise snowboarding would be illegal.. along with hockey, motorcycles, cars, boating... you name it.. life has risks. A terrible tragedy.. but this is bound to happen.. just like it does other sports and hobbies. Just respect your 700 and fly it a bit further out.. there are ways to minimize risk.

Snowboards don't gruesomely decapitate people in parks. Logically it's no different but you have to consider the sensationalism involved in this story. Remember that they banned lawn darts after a series of sensationalized accidents. The same thing could happen to radio controlled aircraft.

i hope we eventually hear exactly how the accident happened so we can stop this happening to anyone else ever again!
better yet i hope with all this new technology coming out someone incorporates a 'proximity' feature (such as helicommand) where once the unit gets too close to the receiver a failsafe kicks in like 'rescue mode'

Cars and motorcycles do that.. snowboarding was just an example off the top of my head. Life is not safe... Come on man.. don't try to stir the anti-heli pot. Keep to topic... a good man was lost today.. and he did, and all of us do, know the risks involved.
