I'm confused about the required shaft length needed. If I just buy the naked kit.. What motors are out there that have a 30mm mounting pattern AND the necessary shaft length out of the box?

I had to use a Xl shaft from kde for my 700mx to get that 3rd bearing. Motor bolted up though. Jc is running a scorpion but with a shorter shaft that doesn't get the 3rd bearing. He has reported no issues with this configuration.

Thanks Ragtop. It looks the the Pyro 520XL has a 30mm mounting pattern also. Not too sure about the shaft length though. Have to look it up.

My advice would be to stick with scorpion if you can. The torque and overall power seems to be the best fit for this helicopter.

To anyone who has a HKIII 4035 series motor and does not have a super XL (110mm shaft) you can actually buy a replacement gaui shaft and use it instead of ordering one from scorpion. Empire has them in stock right now.

There is a good and bad side to the extended shaft. You will add some drag and increase heat a little bit when running the extended shaft into the pinion support, however I doubt you would be able to snap a motor shaft.

As far as I have seen, only two people have broken a motor shaft, one was a 700mx shaft, the other was a scorpion shaft that had been ground down too far.

375g for a motor is kinda nice from a weight perspective though. After you buy the aftermarket shaft for the Scorpion it's close to the same $ if you have 10% off.

Got it. X7 on the way. I like the layout of the fuselage/tail; crown gear, main gear, head and tail/assembly pitch slider. I don't think I'll be dissappointed. Now for a motor, and blades.

So with the included pinion, is the 500kv or 520kv more desireable? I can't seem to find pinion options for this heli?

I have on hand a 4035-500 I was wanting to try, but not sure I'll see enough headspeed etc... Looking to get 2100-2200 easily for max grunt.

The HKIII 4035-500 is good on 10 tooth if you want around 2100 but i wanted 2200 governed so I went with an 11.

Anythingheli did have the 11 in stock.

Make sure your motor has 30mm bolt spacing. The HK4035 first gen has 25mm and won't line up. The HKIII has a set of both.

JC is that with 690 or 710s? I assume 690s but is that really needed 2200 rpm on the head?

Rail 690's 22-2300 is really ideal for this machine, I do know that Mr. Mel and a few others really like the heli at 2150 and like 1600 with asymmetrical blades. (For Camera Ship)

My set up is 2300 Scorpion 4525-520 11t pinion. 700mm Matt Black Spin Blades

You don't need anymore than 2300 heli will hold up to 2650 ( I have personally tested for the last 3 or 4 months)

What were they thinking when they included those CF reinforced servo horns for a 1/4 scale pattern plane?

Thanks for the heads up, got the Align horns like you did.

I will be posting a supplemental build thread on the X7 to document my experience and assist anyone out there in the X7 world! Assembly begins within the hour! All stock except the refined main blade links that Gaui machined slightly.
