Default FBL Mounting tape question.

So I decided to try the 3M 4010 tape first, as it seems like it'll be a tad easier to remove if I need to relocate the FBL unit. I've got the SK540 attached to the top of the boom block, although Skookum recommends to have it as close to the CG as possible, but if I mount it with wires facing backwards, the USB port is near impossible to get to. Will give it a shot on the boom block for now, plus it looks nice

Anyway, I notice the 4010 tape has a bit of give if you twist the FBL unit left and right/side to side. Is this acceptable? I was under the impression that it should be pretty solid and stay square to the helis frame to give the best performance. Seems a lot of folks are using this very tape with good results, but just wanted to get everyone's opinion. I have the 3M 411 gray foam tape as well, so can switch it out if need be.

While I'm at it, are most peoples motor wires touching the motor mount? Really can't avoid it, I used a bit of heat shrink around the wires where they touch the mount, not sure it'll make a difference, but makes me a feel a tad better

The 3M 4011 tape is ok for most FBL units. If you run a very smooth heli (I'm talking really negligible amount of vibration), you can use the Pattex 250kg mounting tape too. It's around 1.5mm thick and very tough. It doesn't have the give in flex that 4011 has but if you have vibes on your helo, FBL will feel it. I have been using that for the past year or so and haven't looked back

Here's how I have been running my motor wires since day 1. No problem, no heatshrink where they touch the motor mount.

Where does one obtain this Pattex tape from? The Pattex website doesn;t list anything with 250KG. They have a nomore nails 125KG.

I'm flying MiniProtos with Mini V-Vbar using two layers of 3M4010 tape. Now it flies real well. Had some twitching with only one layer of tape during hard direction changes.

Do mount it on the boom support or under the main shaft?

It's mounted on top of boom support.

No idea where to get it on the web. I buy mine in a local Hornbach (European Harbor Freight kind of store). I comes with red colored carrier tape.

Ty how did you go with this? I am just starting my Mini Protos build and also went with a Skookum SK540. Would love to see some photos if you can post them on how you ended up mounting it? It's such a nice looking FBL unit!!!

Here's a couple of pictures I took last week. Going to try with it mounted to boom block first and see how it works. Used one layer of 3M/Scotch 4010 clear tape. Very solid mount yet has been fairly easy to remove. The 540 really is a great looking unit, impressed with the setup software too.

Thanks for that mate looks awesome. I have both 3M 4010 and 4011 tape. I might try the 4010 tape first too. Let me know how you go
