Default Servo jammed during funnel... Weird behavior after taking apart.

As I said, I was doing a funnel with my protos and on of my Hyperion DH16-scd cyclic servos jammed. I managed to get the heli down without damage. I took the servo off the heli and opened it up. After playing with the mechanics a little it is no longer jammed, however when traveling slowly it appears to jump or stutter. The others do not do this.

An ideas?

They seem fine. I'm able to manually move the horn smoothly.

What did you find that caused it to jam?

I've jammed a whole pile of servos and it has always been a gear. Maybe look at them with magnifying glass....

May be a rare occurrence, but if it's acting "jittery" and you're 100% sure all the gears are OK it may be the potentiometer, which tells the servo what the output gear's position is. If the sweepers on the POT are not perfect, or there is excessive carbon dust inside it may not be getting a clean reading/sweep.

+1 to the pot. and/or motor. Also check solder joints.

Any write ups available on how to examine / clean the potentiator?

The potentiometer is the shaft the output gear mounts on. With all the gears out you may be able to see the little contact that rides on a small terminal strip below it. Some spray electronics cleaner may be used on it.
When the potentiometer is at its center position the motor should not move. You can take a pair of needlenose pliers and move it from center to test; turn one way motor should run constantly in one direction (gears still out) go all the way to the end of travel verify motor runs continuously at all points.
Now go back to center motor should stop. Turn shaft the other way now motor should turn in opposite direction now as tested previously.
Hope this helps…

Consider yourself lucky---get rid of the servo.

How much is a new one vs the hope that you actually fix the problem and don't.

Already ordered a new one... Just examining it to see if this was an easy fix!
