How to test whether a servo is going south?
I am having problems with my E325V2, and I suspect that one of the HS-65MG servos (Elevator) is on its way to heaven:
- Poor flight characteristics lately. Almost crashed today. - On the bench, the servo fluctuates slowly around center while the other two stay still. - When I try to adjust the center via the GT5.1 gyro, the AIL servos move slowly and smoothly through the range, while this Elev servo tends to "jump" in big increments. - It centers differently on power-up from the way it used to, without having played with the swash/links/etc. That results in a non-level swash on startup. How can I confirm 100% that it's the servo itself that's going bonkers? Can it be the gyro (slim chances, how can only one channel exhibit such behavior)? Thanks,

You can switch plugs on the F BL unit and see if the servo now plugged into the same spot acts the same way. If your suspect servo is still acting the same even on a different output, you have your answer.
Have you opened the servo to check the gears? Does it move freely and easily when you rotate it by hand? Just a couple of ideas. Also, some radios and chargers allow for servo testing.

I swapped Elev and Ail-L/R plugs, and sure enough -- the servo behaves the same way regardless of which channel it's plugged into... so clearly there's something wrong with the servo. Great test! Time to go shopping...

And good idea is: *NOT TO FLY IT*
I am talking from my personal experience - where I flew Protos 500 (slightly bigger machine to MT) with s9650 with MKS 9660A+ gears (there was a reason people said it doesn't work). I continue flying it even though it wasn't 100% right: notchy servo move when manually move servo arm, sometimes not a smooth travel when moved using Tx... Until one day that servo got stuck and made Protos making small loops on its own! Slowly going backward after each loop. And down at the same time. Fortunately nobody was hurt. |

Mine was initially "bobbing" in inverted flight on the Elev axis, then eventually started going erratically in wide circles while facing in the same direction and waving back and forth on the AIL axis. I am guessing the gyro got completely confused by the Elev servo response. I struggled to level it for several seconds before hitting TH and landing safely with no casualties . And yes, thank you -- there's no way I am flying it again before a complete servo refresh .

Don't worry. We are all guilty of it (some even more - like me). I was just trying to scare you - helping you not spend more money than you need to.

Alright -- new servos and blades. Flies great!!!
Alright. Installed new HS-5065MG servos and new FBL blades (Revolution).
Flies great, no more bobbing!!! Thank you for your help. Nothing fancy here, just some freestyle loops, inverted flight, circuits... that kind of thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC68VFGn09w

Hesitated at 4:45. Pretty obvious for a trained eye.
