Problem with MH frame...

I recently bought the MH CF/Aluminum frame. I transferred everything over to the new frame with out much of a problem, plugged everything in to the 3in1, made sure all screws were tight, threw in a battery to test and came up with 2 problems.

1. The tail boom is slipping inside the hole where it goes into the frame turning the tail motor while in flight. I made sure the screw was tight, and flew again, same thing. Is there anyway to make some sort of friction between the mount and the boom to hold it secure?

2. While flying, the bird just doesn't sound right, by this I mean with the stock frame the sound from the bird while flying is a lower pitch than with the new frame. Is this normal for this frame or is there an issue I am not seeing. Someone had mentioned that the main gear could be too tight up against the motor pinion but I do not think so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did the same thing, and have the same problem with the boom. I am using 2mm solid carbon fiber.

I intend to try a little bit of plastic tubing over the end, as I think the problem is that the metal adapter is too rigid and doesn't clamp down.

I did not notice a change in sound, but, I have not flown much either.

On my MH boom mount, I just used a little CA to coat the end of the boom, let it dry then slipped it in and tightened down. I only used it for a short time though, I went ahead and got the RKH boom mount and the rear frames from asteroid. No more problems after that.

Any of you guys strip the MH boom mount? I didn't tighten too hard, but the screw just turns and turns, boom not holding. Freaking garbage I'm guessing. Maybe drill out and use screw and nut. ahhhhhhhhhh

I have Dylan's adapters and the RKH mount is on the way.

I agree, it seems daft to add aftermarket parts to an aftermarket frame.

I was thinking of drilling out using a nut-n-bolt.

I had to switch mine to the RKH mount to solve this problem. Now it's perfect.

Looks like I am going to have to do the same. Installed the new MHX frame on Sunday and as I went to tighten the boom, not hard at all, the entire screw broke off right in the middle. So now I can either drill it out, order a new MH boom mount, or upgrade the upgrade to the RHK and AD mount...

Seems like the RHK and AD is the way to go? I really do not want the tail to be able to roll at all...

Its a good setup, especially with a 3mm boom. Helps to chamfer the hole for the boom on the rkh mount too, makes it a bit harder to break the boom at the mount.

Might also want to drop mh an email about the broken screw, they should take care of you but it might take a few weeks.

i broke the screw on my rhk mount three times, i use heat shrink on the end of the boom when using the mh mount also if you use a longer screw so it will stick out the other side you can remove it if it should break

Actually ran into an issue with a rakon mount last night, the clamping screw hole near the head of the screw wasnt quite a clearance fit, still had some threads, so the screw would tighten before pinching the boom. Drilled it for clearance and all was well.

You can also increase clamping force by adding some grease under the screw head.

I gotta ask, how does grease under the screw head help? Seems like it would just squish out.

Friction is reduced at the screw head, allowing you to tighten it a bit more.

Yep look at any decent factory repair manual for a car, torque specs are listed for dry or oiled fasteners, there can be a big difference in clamping force by lowering the friction under the head of the bolt when using the same torque.

Went ahead and ordered the 2mm RHK mount with the AD MH adapter brackets. I already have the solid 2mm boom on it for now. Maybe 3mm if it ever needs replaced.

I see that everyone loves the RKH tailboom mount. What are the negatives to just using it on the RKH frame instead of getting the Microheli frame and swapping it out??
