How to complete the mTDR-CPX canopy
Proheli.de produces in my opinion the most beautiful mCP X canopy, at least for me that I consider the Henseleit TDR the most beautiful rc helicopter model.
In addition to imitate the TDR style, this canopy is large and, also thanks to the vibrant colors, enhances the perception of spatial position when the helicopter is far away. Unfortunately it is not plug and play and the instructions are in German only. It comes in a kit to be assembled, which includes the two shells, the complete set of high quality stickers and the German manual. The two shells are to be finished cutting them with a very sharp scissors. The front side of the left shell is cut leaving 2 or 3 mm of material from the down edge. The rear part of both the shells is cut along the cutting line. Even the front side of the right shell is cut along the cutting line. The holes for the canopy holder pins must be 2mm. You can not go wrong here, because the points are marked. The experience taught me that the holes are a weak point, so I prefer to use small pieces of the cut away parts of shells to get reinforcements, glued with ca (pics 1 and 2). Before we redo the holes, better to apply the stickers (pic 3). After the stickers have been applied we can drill it again (pic 4). Now it's finally time to join the two shells. I taped the bottom part near the battery and the upper part near the swashplate. Then I glue starting from the nose. Then, by removing a piece of tape, I glue on one side and then complete the other. Here and in the attached pics is the finished work. I hope it will be useful to someone. Paolo Last edited by liftbag; 09-17-2011 at 01:46 AM.. |

Nice work, Paolo. Mamartin was good enough to translate the German instruction for me but your supplementary info will prove even more useful. Now, if the 3 that's coming my way would just hurry up....
Btw, how easy is it to eliminate air bubbles when sticking the details on?

Remove the bubbles is rather difficult due to very strong adhesive. But they are elastic and rubbery and it's really easy to avoid bubbles accompanying the sticker with your finger with side to side movements of the fingertip |

It is indeed an awesome canopy and I'd love to get one someday. But I've never had luck assembling these kind of canopies or fuselages. I could never get the two halves glued together and stay put, or clean.

That's what I do but was going on the assumption the masses are still using IE.

I had read a workaround to this problem, but I could not find the information. However if you try to contact proheli.de, I'm sure they will give you the information to overcome the problem |

Grazie mille, Paolo.
The lower canopy mounts on the stock frame are too short. Figure 5 of the instruction shows 5mm extension of these 2mm rods. Did you also extend and glue a 5mm long, 2mm diameter CF rod to the lower canopy mounts? Ciao

However, I believe that extending the plastic pins with a rod of 2 mm in diameter makes it difficult to get them into the grommets. I think it's better to use a carbon rod of 1.5 / 1.6 mm. |

Hello gents
What type of glue is safe and strong enough to stick the two sides together. Thanks Dave |
