Motor Bogging
Hi HF's!!
I've got a Gaui X5 Formula with a 910kv Scorpion, 90A Castle Talon, 4000mah 30c Desire Power batteries, 13 degrees pitch top and bottom. 120T main gear. 15T pinion. 520mm main blades. Head speeds Governed: Normal: 1900 Idle Up1: 2100 Idle Up2: 2200 When I take off in normal mode it sounds like the motor is bogging under the load and the sound doesn't change and when I go to idle up1 or idle up2 it sounds better. Now it should be almost clear that my question is already answered by just upping the head speed, but I'm not 100% convinced. If the motor bogs it should mean that it's either not getting enough juice to deliver the power needed for the load or the motor can't handle the load. Because if the power was sufficient the motor should sound the same under load or not, or am I wrong in thinking this way? I'm very new to big'ish electric heli's. Thanx

The 2100 and 2200 headspeeds are more efficient for your gearing. 1900rpm is equivalent to 71% throttle, which is pretty low, and your ESC is going to have a hard time regulating speed at that throttle percent.

Ok, so I shouldn't worry about that then.
Get the heli off the ground and switch to idle up 1 or 2. I just have to get used to all of this, as my nitro had the same engine tune on each flight condition. Thanx.

A few things come to mind. The gaui x5's I have seen are running a higher headspeed, around 23-2400. I have had the issue on my helis if I run too low of a headspeed I get bogging, raising it makes it much better. Also could be the batteries not being able to keep up. Run as high of a throttle curve as you can for your gearing, as when running lower, your esc does not give the motor the full voltage of your battery as much as it could.
