Question Accucell-6, field charging 6s lipos

I'm sure this has been asked but i cant find any info or solutions and am a total noob when it comes to electricity..So if you will point me in the right direction, please.

I have an old Turnigy Accucell-6 charger (50w). Works just fine but I've noticed im limited to 2.2A charge current, when charging from home or the field.
When home I use an AC power supply that is 16v 3.74A output. And when at the field I use a Gel Cell 12v DC marine battery.

My question is, how do i get more from this charger? It takes close to an hour to charge my 3300mh packs...and about 30-45 min for my 1550mh. What do I need to do? Would the cigarette lighter provide more Amps while field charging? Do I need a AC power supply for the home with more output??

Any suggestions are helpful, even if directed to a good read..but I cant upgrade my charger yet...and dont want to build an elaborate power supply....(was my first thought).

Thanks Freaks!!

The charge current is going to be impacted by the cell count of your packs as well as the input voltage.
If the charger can deliver 50 watts, the maximum current for 3s would be 3.98 amps. For 6s it would be half that. In some cases increasing the input voltage can help overcome the input current limit. But the real trouble is that its very costly to find a supply that can deliver 16v to 18v. You'd also need to power it with AC or a generator.

In the end, your money is much better spent on a more powerful charger, and a way to power it. Either a generator and DC supplies or couple deep cycle batteries.

This post is about the limits you are running into.

Thanks Gregor99,
Great reads....now the math starts.
One quickie, if my charger is rated for 11-18v, will it only use what it can?

I.E. if i use 2... 12v (getting 24v) batterys to power up the charger in the field will it only draw what it can use? Or would the extra 6v damage the charger due to its input range?

I really appreciate the guidance. Cheers

The input components on the charger have a voltage limit. If that limit is exceeded, one or more of those components would likely be damaged. So, no you cannot use a 24v supply.

The charger will only use as much CURRENT as it needs, up to the current limit of the charger.
