Default ESC Placement on E820

Alright, I finally got one of these bad boys. I am wondering two things: 1) which ESCs are people using, and 2) where are they mounting them?

It looks to me that, due to the way the batteries are mounted, there really aren't many options for ESC placement. I'm guessing on the outside of the frame is going to be a popular spot, but I generally like to keep my electronics concealed, mostly for esthetic reasons.

Ideally, I'd like to mount it up front on the receiver tray, but the batteries make wire routing difficult. I also considered mounting it inside the rear of the frame, but again the batteries are in the way. Seems like Thunder Tiger didn't think this through very well.

So what is everyone else doing?

Oh yeah, my ESC is a Kosmik 200, although I also have a Scorpion Commander 160 I could use (it's about the same dimensions as the Kosmik though). Also, I am going to use a Scorpion HKIII 5035-380 motor.

Default ESC

I have my ESC mounted in the tray up front. The leades can be run to the ESC without a problem. I am at work right now but will post a picture as soon as I find one. I also used http://www.minicopter.de/catalog/pro...oducts_id=1067 to mount it up there nicely.

Thanks Brad! That mounting plate is awesome! Do you have trouble getting the proper CG with the ESC mounted up front? I tried some mock-ups and found I couldn't move the batteries too far back in the tray or the tray assembly wouldn't close (the batteries hit the rear lock pins). I'd love to see your pics.

Thanks Heimo! I'm guessing the Throttle/BEC wires go through one of the frame holes on the other side? It's good that the "press" button and microSD card line up with the frame holes.

Default Holes.....

i had no hole to rework. It seems, TT know the correct size to use the frame with a Kosmik

Was really easy to attach the Kosmik on a handy position.....

Heimo,
Did you have to run your motor wires outside the frame? On mine, the batteries won't allow running them inside the frame. If it's not too much trouble, could you post some more pics of how your ESC wires are routed? Also, did you use any double-sided adhesive tape (or something similar) between the ESC and the tail gear box in addition to the zip ties?

Default ESC...

Yes, i use a very soft double-sided adhesive tape below the ESC to avoid vibrations. But 4 zipties hold
the ESC in position. In my case i could running the cables inside the frame.

I took few pictures more:

Sorry for not posting the pic yet. Just been real busy. With the KOSMIK up front, CG is right where it is supposed to be on mine. I will get some pics up for you soon.

Thanks NTM! How is the CG with the ESC up front? Do you have to move the batteries so far back that you have trouble closing the battery tray? Can you post a few pics with the batteries mounted and also showing how/where you routed the battery cables? I know you fly pretty hard, do you experience any temperature problems with the ESC up front?

I'm a little late to the thread but here is another option. I've front mounted mine as just prefer it that way but have extended the battery cables to run to the back so can still leave the canopy on to change packs, best of both worlds!
Cog is perfect like this and have the packs just forward of centre of the tray, bags of room.
