Default Tell me about auto paints and clear coat

Sorry, this is a little off topic, but I know that some HF members have a background in painting.

I ordered a new truck, and when it got to the dealer, it had several scratches on the roof that went through the clear coat (what the salesman said). So the roof needs to be repainted. In 1969, I had a fender repainted, and after several years, there was a noticeable difference between the fender and the rest of the car.

I am afraid to take delivery of this new truck with a repainted roof.
Can anyone tell me if this is really nothing to worry about now...and the repaint will be just as good as the factory. I tend to keep cars a long time (replacing my 2000 Tundra).

Again, sorry for the "Off topic" post.

Thanks,

Dan

If done by a pro and you were werent told about it my bet is that you would have never known it was ever touched, materials and processes have come a long way and a pro probably would never just spray a panel and end it there, touch up jobs are generally blended into surrounding areas and are virtually undetectable.
Inspect it very closely on delivery day and if youre not happy dont settle.

Thanks...good info. I talked to the body shop manager, and he said that the dealership gives a lifetime warranty on their paint jobs, so I now feel comfortable, especially after your comment.
