Finally got it to hover
With the much needed help from fastone93 setting up the Ikon and his excellent piloting skills, the Pantara 50 hovers and flyes very nicely!
Now to master FF. |

Congratulations, Mike! There's no finer feeling of accomplishment, is there?
I must admit to having been a proponent of your going back to the conventional flybar, but I'm pleased you persisted. Please don't forget to share your settings and experience with me (once you accumulate some time on the model and refine them) because they may help the next guy who mentions he's going to try the Ikon. Finally, I enjoyed our visit the other day and am glad you returned with batteries freshly charged and attacked the frustrations you were feeling with your model. Attaboy!

Thanks John I'm nothing if not presistant.
Thanks also for getting the ESC to me, got it last week. Still haven't gotten the self level feature to work on the Ikon controller but will get that figured out in the next few days/ weeks. |

Jerry
I'll try and take some pictures if I can figure out how to post them. Never done that before. Need to get self level working so I can get going with FF, as no one in the club will buddy box. |

There are no heli pilots in your club? That's a shame because just one flight with a buddy-box is a great help. Too bad you're so far away because I'd be happy to help - no charge, of course.
Anyway, do you fly fixed wing models? If so, entering forward flight is very much similar except for learning to push forward on elevator to initiate forward flight, and again when exiting a turn. Added to which, you need to use a fair bit of rudder, as if you were flying a Cub, when executing a 180° turn, e.g when flying in a race track pattern. Fortunately, the ability to hover is beneficial because you can collect yourself if you get disoriented, then make another attempt - even if you have the model in a hover 100 yards away and 100 feet high. In my experience, disorientation is the biggest problem, so consider strapping the training gear back on because the size of it helps with visual orientation, especially when the model is a speck. One tip, try to fly upwind from yourself in the beginning. This way, if you loose orientation and enter a hover, the wind will have a tendency to blow the model closer to you, which can help re-establish orientation. Good luck, pal

And if you have one - plenty of sim practice!!! Especially if there's no instructor pilot available to help you. Pantera's are great value, but not so cheap as to be able to afford to crash all the time!!!
Much as John might appreciate the business, I'll bet he sure wouldn't like the circumstances!!! |
