Tame 450 Pro
Quote:
You absolutely can tame your helicopter with the pitch/throttle curves. I started off with a Trex 450 Pro and no sim. I wanted to set up a very tame helicopter. My throttle curve for normal mode is very tame. 0, 40, 50, 75, 90. This should make your helicopter hover at approx 75% throttle. I find that the lower head speed makes the helicopter a little less intimidating. My pitch curves are also very tame. My helicopter can only pull +6/-3. Some things to note on this setup. It is ONLY for hovering. You will not have enough pitch or power available to you for any sport maneuvers or even autorotation. Also you should not fly this setup in any wind. If the wind grabs your heli, you will not be able to get into your negative pitch range without dumping too much head speed. When I progressed to forward flight I kept a tame normal mode for hover orientation practice. I set up an idle up with a +9/-6 pitch range and 100, 87.5, 75, 87.5, 100. This allows me to switch into idle up with no jump in the helicopter, access enough pitch to fight wind gusts and autorotate. Good luck with your flying,

Not required, however it sets the tail geometry as it should be. I did.

Yes I think the Aligh gyro works much better at 8mm rather than 10mm.

Rate mode?
I have a quark and a mks DS95i that im putting in one of my 450 pros. I want to give this "rate mode" thing a try. The quark mannuel says to set 8° pitch on blades, at 90°. Has anyone tried this? And what are the benifits of rate mode anyway?

You need to flip the tail grip to get a 8 degree pitch. Without flipping the tail grip, everything works alright, but if you flip the tail grip, you will get a better geometry.
I usually set my tail in rate mode first. It's not necessary, it's personal. If you can have a steady tail in rate mode, it means that you have the correct pitch. When you flip to HH mode, the gyro and servo don't need to work hard, because the tail pitch is already correct. But if you don't set the tail in rate mode, you don't know what pitch you have, the gyro and servo have to work harder to keep the tail steady. |

I"m building my TREX 450 Pro and ran into a problem... I'm using the Hitec 5065MGs and the washer included in the kit but I then came across the finless video where he says not to use the washer w/ this servo so when I went to take them out I found I must have cross-threaded one of the screws and now I can't get it out. It's one of the lower hex screws in the front servos so I can't fit a dremmel cutting tool in there so I can cut the head & use a flathead so not sure what to do now!
Do I try to remove it (and if so any suggestions for doing this) or should I just leave it as is? Thanks!

Even if I remove the bearing block from the frame I don't think the dremmel circular cutting attachment will fit w/o hitting the servo. Someone at the club suggested something called an Easy Out but they weren't sure if they are made in a small enough size.

You are talking about the lower screw right? opposite the wires? I have never seen an easy out that would be small enough for this application. There could be some really small ones out there, just I have not seen any. EDIT*** Here is a screen grab from the Finless vid on the issue with the 5065's. You should have access to "slot" the screw with a dremel.

Yes taht's the screw I'm talking about. I guess I only need to cut a small slot on one end away from the servo case & hope that's enough. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Wow I had a total brain fart. I guess I did not visualize that piece out of the frame but when you drew that green line I realized that I would have no trouble w/ the dremmel wheel. Duh! Don't know why I wasn't "seeing" that. Thanks!

I am glad you got it figured out and hope you are able to get that screw out without further incident.
