Finally turned it into a Lawn Dart!
Sort of........................... I live on a very wooded lot & was playing around this afternoon, got a little close to the green stuff & the wind (not my dumb ass mind you ) put it into the trees.
Saw where it was going & was able to hit TH right away & got lucky. My first thought was $*!t I hope it comes down, but it it did, and very gently I might add. Walked over to find it & check the carnage..........looked fine from five feet. Picked it up and only one link popped off the swash, blades LOOKED good, but after closer inspection were toast. Main gear, feathering shaft, & main shaft all fine. With the exception of the blades the thing looked just like it did when I took it out of the box! But all three of the POS e-flight servos on the swash are shredded. Off I go to my backup LHS to get some blades............was told Horizon is not shipping parts for the 450X yet. So I picked up 3 DS410's & a 420 to replace the e-flight garbage, I'll buy the blades my primary LHS had on the wall Friday when I was in there, on Tuesday when they open up again. It obvoius this thing is pretty damn rugged, but If you're not going to upgrade servos, you better buy several sets of servo gears for your crash kit! For anybody who has replaced their servos.... the Align & Spektrum arms look a lot more flexable. Have you noticed any bad flying qualities because of this? |

Not to make light of your crash, but I came into this forum because I decided I was finally going to get a 450X, and was curious how well the plastic gear servos held up in a crash. I come from the old B400 days and just looking at those servos wrong would destroy them. Funny that your post was at the top, complaining about the servos...
Guess the next step is sift through the posts and find out what people are using to replace them. On my B400, I used the HS65MG servos, and those took a beating. I guess the digital version should do the trick... Unless they're not fast enough these days for the onboard BX FBL controller. Then I gotta find something fast enough for the tail... |

Don't see it as making light at all. There seems to be a number of fans of the hi tec servos here. My LHS stocks the Align servos & gears so that's what I went with...been happy with them in my 450 Pro, so they should be fine in the 450X.

I ran mine into the ground at what must have been close to 60mph a couple days ago. It was a most spectacular crash and not one servo made it out in one piece. But the gear rebuild kits are only 3$, and now she's back in the air without an issue. I'll eventually replace the cyclics with something more robust like the spektrums, but in the mean time I'm sold on the toughness of the servo unit itself (just not the gears)

But yeah, it chewed up the feathering shaft, tail boom, Blades, and servos. Pretty tough bird I say. |

Still waiting for my first crash. Still got that "mind" to defeat. The day when I decide to get inverted will come though. And there will be expensive outcomes of it...

I went ahead and got my first crash out of the way by crashing it the second time I tried to fly it. Oh yeah, crash number two was on the flight after that. My poor 450X has probably crashed more times than it's landed safely.
I've been kind of the opposite of you, I keep not thinking about how much it's going to cost to fix it when I crash and I keep trying things that I should have practiced more on the Sim, before trying them with the real thing. |

I don't fly like I am afraid of crashing it. I fly like I am irritated of spending hours to fix and set-up the damn thing! Just try not to go flying after watching too many youtube videos is all
