Default MCPX Main Gear Problem --HELP!--

Hey all,

So I just swapped out the swashplate on my MCPX after one of the balls broke off (I think you all know what I'm talking about). After I got the new swash on there, I reinstalled the main shaft and when I went to slide the main gear back on I couldn't get it to click into place. After further inspection, I noticed that the main gear and pinion were now VERY close together, in fact so close that I couldn't even get the gear back on. The mesh between the main gear and pinion is EXTREMELY tight now and when I try to spool up the heli I can hear clicking between them. What has happened and how can I reduce the mesh between the main gear and pinion???

I'd check the top bearing then. Maybe the mainshaft is off alignment and tilting because the top bearing is missing, it might have fallen off when you were changing the swash. Or your mainshaft is deformed in someway - you did mention the gear was hard to install. Otherwise, check at the motor end, screws on the mount could be loose, your motor could be tilting.

Maybe if that's not helping put up some pictures.

Are you using the same gear you had on there or a new one? With no gear on the shaft, spin the head...does it look like the main shaft is running true?

+1 on checking the main motor. I've come down hard and snapped the frame where the main motor is held in place and had the same problem. Double check for hairline cracks in the frame. Next, I'd check both main shaft bearings, as previously mentioned. Finally, I'd make sure the main gear is oriented on the shaft correctly, ie the flat spot on the shaft and flat spot on the gear line up and that the main gear isn't upside down on the shaft.
