Default Introduction - Helibug Open Source V2 - Zenoah

The latest thing from Helibug is an updated version of their Open Source conversion platform

this one is for the Trex 700/800 V3 and its very unusual. In this design the the chassis connects to the engine by the engine mount. The landing gear attach directly to the bottom of the engine. But the two aren't connected! Basically the engine is a chassis component

the all aluminum chassis supports 12 different gear ratios and a fuel tank as large as 20oz for extended flying time

availalble now from helibug HERE

There is also an optional kit available that connects the top and bottom frames in the traditional frame.

More powerplant announcements for this platform are forthcoming

Interesting, using the motor as a stressed member.

Be careful with sliding autos on this one

yes, and it was interesting back when Century started using it with their Radikals 4 or 5 years ago
I agree it's a cool frame, but the upper and lower frames should interlock to stiffen and help reduce vibrations. and note the upper part of the frame by the upper bearing, surely it's not intended to be an acrobatic heli, more likely a novelty type .

I'm sure he will sell a few, but then he will be stuck making parts for it for the few that are bought used

How much weight is actually saved by not connecting the frame halves to the bottom plate?

I'm assuming Ali did extensive testing and analysis of the zenoah case halves? Seems like vibes would eventually cause the crankcase to crack after a while. You essentially have a vibration source that's cantilevered in flight.

Any flight vids?
