X5 w/vbar
I am attempting to choose between a standard and a mini vbar for my X5. Mounting for a standard unit would be fairly straight forward, sensor on the boom block, control module under the main gear. A mini could go in either of those places. The BLS451's I'll be using have short leads so a mini might work better on the boom block. The control module could just sit between the frames with the sensor on the boom block.
Has anyone done this yet? I would also be interseted in X5 vbar files and any information about adjustments to the stock geometry. Thanks!

I've set up my X5 with the vbar (normal v5 pro), but haven't properly mounted the electronics yet. I think I will mount the control unit on the side of the frame near the tail - there's not that much room in the rear tray with the JR RD921 receiver I'm using.
I had to lower cycling ring to 75 and I replaced the long balls on the swash for the short ones. Everything is now in the green in the setup. Mini vbar with satellites in the lower-rear bay seems the best option for me, but would require extension cables for the servos. I wouldn't put the control unit inside the frames, as that would make it rather hard to connect the USB cable. |

That sounds logical. What length servo arms are you using?

Same as with the FB head. I also kept the height of the swash the same and with 0 pitch, the swash follower arms are nice and level (as shown by the paper leaflet that comes with the FBL head).
It seems to me that the FBL is pretty much a drop-in replacement, which is nice - saves me time getting those swash links the right length. |

Sweet! You wouldn't happen to know how much shorter the fbl main shaft is than the fb main shaft, would you?

This is certainly not necessary for vbar 5.0 but, if anyone's interested, it this does show that the X5's head geometery is nearly ideal for flybarless relative to the Mikado reference.
The inner swash radius is roughly 22.75mm, the outer swash radius is roughly 40.5mm, main grip radius is roughly 31mm. All measurements taken 90* to mainshaft. Link to tool: http://www.vstabi.info/en/geometry I'm also finding that an 11mm tail servo arm gives me CCW/CW of roughly 60/60. I am waiting for main grip link rods so I can't sure yet but I believe the swash servo arms will need to be in the 18 to 20mm range. Mikado's are 19mm and the X5 geometry is fairly close.

Hmm, interesting stuff - maybe I should do some reading instead of complaining about the weather :p

Another heads up for fbl; The red dampeners may be too stiff for fbl especially at lower headspeeds. The primary indicator of this would be aileron and possibly elevator shudder or oscillation. This can also result from main rotor gain settings that are too high. Be aware that this may contribute.

I put some flights on the vbar x5 today. I had some serious vibes that had the vbar pulsing the elevator servo. Not smooth at all. And, I was working with wind gusts in the order of 30mph. Hopefully tomorrow will go better.
