A Few Questions
Spent the afternoon flying the mSR after binding to my DX6i. It will now do a good hands off hover for a few seconds and is reasonably stable. However, I had to use around 4 or 5 clicks of right rudder trim to counter a constant ccw rotation. The tail holds just fine after trimming the rudder and has behaved the same way through several test flights with two different batteries.
Am I good to go or does the amount of rudder trim mean my tail motor is weak or failing? My tail rotor looks fine, and the motor shaft spins freely. Once trimmed, it holds well. My left piro rate is much slower than the right, but after reading some more it seems this is normal because of torque and how the motor slows down/speeds up for left/right rudder - is that correct? Last question, do I really need to reset my trim back to neutral before each flight? I left my rudder trim set in the same place for a couple of consecutive flights and it seemed to work just fine without resetting to neutral. Thanks!! |

I got a chance to look at my tail rotor in some better lighting and it has the white stress marks I have heard some speak of. It took a few hard hits before I figured out how to hover and trim it. I'm going to install the spare rotor and also try initializing with the battery out of the battery slot and see if those things alter my rudder response.

Good deal on replacing the tail rotor. Had it not been for the stress marks, I'd have suggested trying to twist them a little to give it more pitch. That can help, but don't expect night and day difference. Bend it too much and it'll damage them.

I have finished a few more flights since then and have also tried twisting the blades. It still takes a couple of clicks of right rudder trim to hold the tail but it's much better than it was before. Seems to be flying pretty well so I'm not going to mess with it unless I damage something. I have a few spare parts now too so I think I'm in decent shape. Bad thing is my MCX2 feels sooo slow after flying the mSR!!

I would not worry about it I have 2 msr and have to set some trim in both of them since I bound them to dx6i but I have 2 different settings for the both of them one flies a little better than the other but they both fly great. I did mess around with adjusting the links on them to make them handle a little better. They both zip around the house good and are fun to fly in the winter inside.
