Default Correct Simulator Cable for Spektrum DX8

Hi All,

As a relative newbie I want to use my Spektrum DX8 with a simulator on a MAC (desktop).

I bought a 'universal' USB simulator cable (is has a mono jack) and have tried it the demo version of Heli-X5, and Aerofly Professional Deluxe. The Heli-X5 appears to detect that a controller is connected by that's as far as it goes, i.e. it doesn't register any movement of any stick or button/knob.

Could someone tell me, and preferably someone who actually has a DX8 successfully working with a MAC based simulator, if the problem is with the cable or possibly the setup on the DX8. Clearly there are stereo and mono jack cables out there, but I can't find anything on the internet that definitively says which kind of connection ithe DX8 uses, though I understand that the training cable uses a mono jack.

I've already wasted hours trying to make it work, but suspect it the cable is not the right one then I'm flogging a dead horse!!

I suspect your DX8 is not in slave mode.

To use slave mode, ensure your DX8 is turned OFF, then plug the cable in, the signals will then be sent to the the trainer port and not the transmitter.

Easy to miss if you have not done this 1000 times before (and even if you have).

ArchmageAU,

Many thanks for the response and I appreciate the tip although I had seen from the forums that this was a common oversight and had made a particular point of ensuring the controller was off. In fact the TX screen displays 'Slave' but suspect that is more a function of it registering that a cable of some sort is plugged in the trainer socket, not that it is necessarily the right type of cable. Similarly the simulator software is probably detecting the USB adaptor rather than the controller it is plugged into.

What I think I need to be sure of first is that the cable is the correct type, then I can rule that out as a possible cause.

Thanks again.
