Default speed controll 30A

I bought the 30A speed controller from HobbyPartz.com. I connected with Esky King 3 with 3100 RPM motor. The motor seems not spinning properly, and the speed controller get warmer. Is the speed controller doesn't have enough amp to power the motor, or is it already damaged?

Hi tecboy, I run the Hobby wing 30a ESC on my 3900 and the only gripe I have with it is I can't get the soft start to work for some reason, if you have your ESC set up for soft start it may be the same thing, I've tried all kind if diff settings on the ESC and it will not allow the softstart to work right, the motor just twitches back and forth or runs funny and the esc gets warm real fast, don't have any idea why this happens, it may be something with the Esky motors I know several other members who have had this same problem with other diff ESC's and Esky motors, my 3900 runs fine as long as I use reg start on the ESC, so you might check how yours is programed---Keep The Rotors Spinning--Wrench

Default 3100 motor

I had a 3100kv Esky in my King 2 for a while and started to have trouble getting it to start with the same ESC. I switched the motor to a 3900 KV and did not have the problem. It may be something with the Timing setting in the ESC, or the 3100 just needs a different esc. Wrench may be on to it as I was using soft start.

BTW, those guys were selling the 30A with a separate BEC for a while. There also may be some problems with the power to the receiver and servos on some of them. I had one actually catch on fire after leaving it with the battery plugged in helping a buddy with his gyro. After taking off, a bunch of smoke... Those esc's heat up a with the power on, even with the throttle off.

For the most part, though, they are good esc's.

Yep, I'm using Hobbywing 30 Amp ESC, too. I'll get a programming card or switch motor and see what will happen.

I found out there is a guard series or Balance Discharge Monitoring and Protection for Hobbywing 30 ESC. Is it very important to have that?

When I first went brushless on my K2 I used the HW 30a and the 3900kv and it has been a good combo for me through all the learning bamming/framming crashing thing, The first 3900 chucked the top bearing after many many flights and the second one has I don't know many flights and is still giving me good service with all the mods I've done, both had the same problem no soft start, the programing card is a nice option and makes checking/programming the esc a breeze, I did try all the diff settings on timming ect to get the softstart to work with no luck, maybe HW ESC's and Esky motors just don't talk the right thing for softstart----- Wrench

Hi exblade - thanks for mentioning this.

A lot of people have had a lot of problems with the Esky 3100kv. So many that I believe they no longer market it and all you will find available today is the run out stock.

The Esky 3800kv and 3900kv have good reputations though
