Crashed my V120D02S today, FACEPLANT!
So I got to buzzing around the neighborhood pretty good. Ran it to the end of the block, did a stall turn and brought it back, landed. I think I've progressed beyond hovering, even got the real one hovering nose in now. Not pretty, but I can manage it. Anyways, saw a big bird circling and went up to make freinds. While I was bringing the heli back in I lost control and did a nosedive into the pavement.
To my complete surprise, the only thing that broke was the landing gear (the one part I didn't order) I repaired it with some superglue but I have my doubts about it holding, specially with the windgusts sometimes giving me a hard landing. Gonna order some skids and call it a night. Tested it out while burning the other batteries down and it seems that all the bits and pieces are still working well. The canopy was already cracked but didn't crack any further. All the same, I'm gonna stop chasing birds and concentrate on becoming a better pilot next time I fly. |

Haha, glad the heli is basically alright. It's a cool little micro, for sure. It should certainly aid your progress in this hobby a good bit.
Happy flying Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Of all the helis I've owned, this one more than any tempts me to do things I'm not ready for. It really makes you feel confident. Which is both good and bad.
Just get good at repairing it, and have fun flying it. Even though I have a 450 now, the V120 still comes with me to the field every time, and still gets flown quite a bit.

Got 3 landing gears in the mail today and went right back to flying outside of my comfort zone. The wife and I made some water float gear from a piece of styrine. Then went out and landed it in the neighbors pool. Success. I just took the piece of 3/4" styrofoam and cut it about 3" x 6-7" and cut 2 slits in it in the middle. Cut another piece, about 1" square for the tail skid. Tested her in the sink to make sure she would not tip over, then landed in the neighboors pool and popped back out when it started drifting left very quickly. I don't know how to post vids on here, but I will maybe upload it to youtube and copy the link.
Then I went out front and was well behaved for the birst batt pack, and even really the second, but I wanted to practice going up and comming back down safely. Did a little pyro rotation, then lost control while practicing orientations at 25 feet. Missed the roof but took a little "thunk" in the grass (cut the power in time). Picked her up and did my first autorotation in front of my other neighbors house with the wind blowing pretty good. My neighbor's kid was impressed. Looked over the little bird, nothing bent or broken, and she's ready for more abuse, but I'm not drinking and flying again so I learned something, lol. I'll wait till tomorrow Man I love this little heli. And it occured to me that I have 3 spare servos and plenty of parts, so next part order I may get pretty close to building another one from spare parts

You are friggin' hilarious. You go from nervous newbie to "I know! I'll put FLOATS on it and land it in the pool! That'll be cool!"
And you know what, it it IS cool. Nice job. You're still plunking it down a little hard on landing, but that's a tough thing to master. It's a sweet little heli - makes me look like a rock star every time I fly, and it's pretty good for mastering lots of essential skills. I'm with you - I love this heli. Thanks for the vid - I hope to post some of my own soon from a headband-mounted bullet cam I just bought. But just a pointer - you might want to hold the phone horizontally next time, and get a wider field of view.

Even the Align manual for the T-Rex mentions this: with a hilarious picture of a drunk dude.

Stupid neighbor kid needs to learn to hold a camera. I told him so after I saw it.
Most of my landings are a lot softer than that, but I was getting nervous, especially toward the end. My neighbors have a very small backyard and there were plenty of things that I was being cautious to avoid and it was starting to get to me. I still put little dips into the grass when it's windy too. Trying to get my left hand to keep up on windy days is the hardest part for me. Glad you liked the vid.

Great! Always fun to see people doing daring stunts with their stuff!
Do you use thumbs or pinch the sticks? When I used to just use thumbs, I found it difficult to be precise. After moving to pinching the sticks, I found I could be much more precise as you get feedback through your thumbs instead of having them just do the work? If you don't pinch, it's a bit tough to get used to, but I found it a better approach in the long run. YMMV. |

When I started I figured that I would be a pinch person because of the way that I do artwork. I always have to have my hand braced for precision. This makes me pretty good at sketches and fairly poor at more freestyle flowing art like paint brushes. I pinched for a couple of weeks and was having all kinds of trouble. One day I switched to thumbs and never looked back. Just easier for me to control it that way, I can't explain it. When I pinch I end up mixing controls instead of pulling the stick in a straight direction tool. So now I just stick to thumbs.
