Default Severe pitch up in wind

Hi Guys,

Been flying my 3G 500 for a year now, mostly good. But has one problem I can't dial out. Fast FF into the wind it has extreme sensitivity to pitch, for example coming out of a big loop, I have to hold forward cyclic to keep the heli from balooning nose upwards. Downwind or no wind its OK.

I bought it used, it the original flash (1.1?), Hitec 5245's on cyclic, all rebuilt, new gears, cases. Align 3G main blades. Ele gain pot set at 1 PM. Could it be the servos are not strong enough and are blowing back? Also in FFF it bobs slightly (porpoises).

My other 500 FB (GY520) is as solid as a rock in FFF (freight train solid), but align coreless servos on swash.

Out of ideas.

Did the sensor have the mod performed?
Collective comp and Elev lock gain work hand in hand for FF performance.
Should update to 2.1.
Sensor mounting also is critile, soft mounting requires a strap or hard cyclic input affects performance

Thanks!

Nope, no sensor mod. Where do I find details? Also can I use a 3GX cable for the 3G update or is it 3G specific (I have another 500 3GX all built ready to go but too nervous to lift off...heard of problems...).

The sensor is soft mounted on the original plastic RX plate, no strap. Problem seems to have got worse with time.

I had the same issue with my 3G. I could never get rid of it. Tried the silicone sensor mod, tried every setting you can think of.

The video looks just like mine, bobbing fairly sharply in FFF. I tried reducing ele gain, but made it worse. So I increased it, flew this AM, light breeze, was mostly OK. I slowed my cyclic ele dual rate to 80%, 20% expo, but flips are slower.

OK I guess its beastX or something eventually.

Elev gain, to much to little, just like the tail, there's a sweet spot and mounting is criticle. That plastic RX shelf resonates vibes to much and doesn't even set level and the 3G must be level unlike the 3GX. You start out with loading defaults, gain up till it rocks hovering or real slow FF and back off till it stops. With the 500 9 cyclic, 13 collective and set both cyclics not just match the elev to the aile. Also there are two longer balls on the inner swash, USE THE SHORTER ONES! you get higher control resolution and better performance. I have a 500 3G, the orginal one and only had problems with 3.0.

You can use the 3GX dongle and cable on the 3G to update the software (the gyro and control unit are updated separately) but you need the 3G 'Y' cable to be able to read the settings on the PC. Look around. They run about $9

Also servo gears wearing, the 500s are noted for that if it's coming on gradually
As for the 3GX, I have both the 3G and GX. before I almost liked the 3G better but now with the 2.0 it smokes the 3G

Thanks all. I'll try a few mechanical things first, such as changing the sensor mount. Servo gears are all new.as is the case..lots of wear on the old ones.
