How do I put the "Smoke" back in it ?
Ok I took ALL of my batteries to work today so I could charge them and "track" their progress. Very easy and worked out great.
Well it was time to head home and I unplugged the charger from the wall-unit. Then I unplugged the banana clips from the charger. (Anyone see the error yet?) I put everything in a "carrying box" and head out the door. I put the box in the car and hear a "SIZZLE" and lots of smoke. I toss the box onto the pavement and dump it out. Talk about PUFFING a battery!!! The Banana clips touched, welded and totally shorted the battery out. It literally melted ALL the insulation off the wires and eveything else! I'm just glad nothing BAD came out of it... it could have been a LOT worse... Here are some pics Battery & Cable (see melting) Puffed Battery Cable & connectors and check out the newly WELDED connectors..... so HOW do I put the smoke back into the battery? |

wow al you are having a bad time with batt's lately, first overdischarge 2 batt's trying not to store with full charge and now short one out and puff it like that. i'm glad you heard the sizzle before anything else bad could happen. did anything else (in the box) get hurt during this ordeal?

I almost did the same thing last week at the field. I getting ready to go home and not thinking I unplugged the banana plugs from the charger first and before I knew it the wire was getting hot. I realized what I had done and quickly pulled the battery from the other side of the plug.
Just goes to show that when you are dealing with Lipo's you have to think and be aware of what you are doing all the time! |

It goes to show that there is ALWAYS time to do things the RIGHT way. Slow steady and deliberate could have saved me yet ANOTHER battery pack. Due to this "incident" I'm going to be making myself some type of battery/charger carrying case. I'll be using one of those aluminum "RX/Pistol" cases and making places for each battery, the charger and the power supply. This way everything have a place and everything WILL go in it's place BEFORE transporting it. Can I get a big "DUH"!!!!!!! |
