Default Century Falscon SE setup on a Spektrum DX9

I have a Century Falcon SE I bought sometime around 2005 and assembled it, but never flew it. I didn't have time to get good on a simulator, then my simulator didn't offer an upgrade to Windows 7, so it sat for years, more of an expensive shelf model. The electronics are older now too. I recently purchased a new Spektrum DX9 and ordered a RealFlight 7.5 wireless simulator and am getting back into the hobby. I'm looking for a setup for my Falcon SE on my DX9 radio. Can anyone help me with the setup for this radio? Also, I'm looking for a similar helicopter I can use with the RealFlight 7.5 simulator to practice with. Anyone able to recommend one? I got a new Spektrum SPMAR8000 receiver with my radio, so I can change the electronics out on the helicopter.

Thanks.

Any chance you still have the manual?

We need the swash type as a starting point.

What tail Gyro? Make and Model.
Do you have a throttle governor? If so what make and model?

Simulator.
Hirobo Shuttle Sceadu 50
Thunder Tiger Raptor 50
Trex 600 Nitro

All will give you an idea what the Falcon will feel like.

The Falcon SE seems to have a fairly long fly bar so if you use fairly tame Rate settings the helicopter should not be cranky to fly. Heavy Paddles or Flybar weights will also help with stability!

In the mean time. Give the helicopter a good service! Get your head back into
the machine!

Re balancing the main blades. Get them perfectly balanced
Remove the feathering shaft and lubricate the bearings and the rubber dampers with silicone!
Consider doing the Main Bearings and the One way bearing as well.
Go over the entire helicopter.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

Yes I still have the manual. I dug it out a couple weeks ago.

Swashplate - HI6146 120 Degree CPPM swashplate.

I upgraded the tail rotor servo mount, moved it to the tailboom. Also upgraded the muffler, I think I put the HV II Speed Torpedo Tuned Muffler on it.

Gyro is a JR G500 T ring gyro.

Don't think I have a governor. Nothing between the throttle servo and the throttle shaft.

Main blades are carbon fiber.

Servo's are JR DS 8311
Tail rotor servo is JR 8700G

I will definitely give it a good service prior to trying to fly it. Good advice. Will give me some time to get reaquainted with it.

Thanks again,

Hello again.

Play with the DX9 and get to know it so your not guessing.

It's best you fallow Bob's advice.

A governor would be a very good investment on a large helicopter like this!
It makes for a much nicer helicopter.

You will need to check out Bobs Tail gyro setup videos as well.
Pay attention when he starts talking about gyro gain!
You will have to fallow the gyro setup directions as I could not find anything on it.

Any questions there are quite a few good guys keeping an eye.]

Wow, thanks for all the information. I've got some real digging to do. It'll take me a while. Hey for a governor, any recommendations? Not even sure where to start looking.

I know you where likely hoping for numbers to plug into the new transmitter.
Unfortunately it's not that easy. But if you fallow Bob's tutorials and take your time you should be ok.

I acquired 2 Curtis ATG governors a at a sale and find they work very well.
http://curtisyoungblood.com/V2/produ...ctronics/atgv3

From idle to 1/3 throttle the throttle servo operates normally for spooling up.
At 30 throttle value the governor picks up and takes over throttle control. RPMS are preset buy you.

In this video I lift off my Hirobo Sceadu 50 the governor is at 1850.

Then as I climb out, just as it passes the moon I use a 3 position switch to bump it up to 1950.

At the highest point just as I turn and start back you can here the motor speed up and the head go to 2000 when I flip the switch to high position.

Then at the end when I do the rapid descent I flip the switch down 1 then again so the head is at 1850 for landing. Works great!

Yea, you're probably right, I was initially looking for numbers to enter, but it wouldn't have lasted long, I need to know the details, and would have wanted to understand each one and what it was for. I think the approach of the tutorials will be best. It'll get me the knowledge I need and help me for any future helicopters. I have been looking at a few tutorials on the DX9 as I have time, and am finding it to be pretty complicated, at least at my level of knowledge which is pretty much nill at this point. I think that's the first place to start to get an understanding. I purchased a cheap quad copter a week or so ago just to get a little practice with the radio. I think it was a good move, it's fairly simple to fly, but still a challenge as I need more coordination on my thumbs. Also nose out versus nose in, is a challenge. It will help with some of these things.

Thanks for the link to a governor. I'll dig into that also.

Again, much appreciated.

Even if you don't go the micro rout you will gain lots of knowledge if you give the tutorials in this link a read

Do you own a simulator?

More good info. Yes I do have a simulator. I have RF7.5. Haven't gotten it to work yet. Had to buy an AnyLink2, but have not tried it since I got the AnyLink2.

Some great advice given so far, but I still fly my Shuttle ZXX without a governor, just use throttle curves and it flys fine. Can flip, roll and loop without any problems, maybe not as well as my T-600 that does have a governor, but still very capable.

You also are just getting going, so you'll probably be hovering and some pattern flying so the gov won't be too important at this stage. Your manual should show you a good throttle curve and pitch curve for each flight mode, that should do you fine for awhile.

Craig

Plus, you would have to get magnets in the fan or a back plate sensor, a governor is not hard to install, but does take some skill.
