Thumb slippage on piroueting maneuvers
Hello HeliFreak Community,
I am just starting some simple piroueting maneuvers like half piroflips and a little bit of full piroflips (working on corrections). Since I started full piroflipping, my thumb slowly drifts off the stick and I find myself eventually to have to put it back to place messing my piro. I havent had this problem before, probably because i wasnt doing circlural motion of any kind. I have even tried going pinch, but as a past gamer, its natural for me to control with the thumb. The radio is a DSMX DX6i with stock sticks. I have also screwed them fully down to the point that I dont use the set screw anymore , sorry but my fingers are kind of small! I would appreciate some tips from thumbers having faced the smae issue, but everyones opinion will certenally helped me. I may upgrade to a DX8 later on, but I dont think it's going to make any difference on thumb slipping. Regards, Andrew

Use some CA with accelerator.
Actually there is an aftermarket stick "end" that is very wide that may solve your problem. I don't know what they're called though.

It's easy to shorten the stick length on DX7, DX8 and probably many others.
Try shorter sticks.

The old DX-7 I had, I put sharp gimbal ends on it. My 9303 came with sharp ends. Hope this helps. :-)

I got 2 sets of these http://helidirect.com/jr-gimbal-stic...ort-p-9079.hdx big fat thumbs. Mine didn't come with the serrated top so I cut them in with a dremel cut off wheel. Also the threads fit the my DX7 but not my DX6i so I would make sure what ever you get they will fit the DX6i. No more slippage for me.

I was running my dx6i sticks short and was experiencing similar issues . I actually extended the sticks, quite a bit, and it greatly improved my ability to control the tail. With the shorter sticks, my thumbs were working too hard and I lost precision in the tail.

I will try to extend them a bit, it will take some time to get used to. Too bad those JR sticks are for JR radios and the DX6i is a Spektrum. I wish I had got a DX7-JR design

I have 3 sets of after market gimbals sticks for my 9303, and 3 for my DX-8 too.
I ended up liking very sharp ridges, even though I am a pincher

Can't you decrease the spring tension on the DX6? You may lose some feeling but your thumb wouldn't slip off all the time.

Don't bother with the wider gimbles, your thumb will still wonder and fall off. Best just to keep your gimbles sharp, keep the stick tension loose, and focus on pressing hold alittle harder on the gimble. Believe it or not but you will actually get better at keeping your thumbs on the sticks with practice. I typically also have a few moves during my routine that lets me readjust my thumb location.

This mod has been the best thing I've ever done to my sticks. Simply skid nuts from HD. Very sticky rubber.

I was doing some tic tocs on the sim with a little with looser tension, it is a lot better but now I see some "unintented" moves now like the tic toc starts to drift on me. I will try to dremel the edges of the stick a little tomorrow.

Slippery Sticks
I raced buggys for many years and often found my thumb slipping off the gas stick so I simply put some silcone tube over the stick, problem solved. I have done the same with my DX6i, works fine for me flying my 550e and is a cheap fix.
