Default RMA hub = no difference!

My RMA hub arrived today. Thank you to Willy Pong for getting it out as promised.

However, I must say, the new RMA hub is no different from any of the other 4 hubs I have measured! Not a single dimension I measured was any different.

So if anyone is 'NOT ON THE LIST' or doesn't want to buy a hub kit or bearings, PM me your addy. I have 2 complete hub kit spares & I'll send you one, with new 2mm bearings and all, for free.

I certainly don't need them, since it's really just the bearings that are the fix, and I have a bunch!

NEW KIT with 2mm bearings:

I just replaced the 1.2 mm bearings with the 2mm bearings using the original hub, tail seems to be working just fine so far (not doing any hard 3-D at this point, just getting used to it, but flies great so far).

The tail wagged on mine like crazy! Violent jerks, until I turned the gain down to around 25% - nice and smooth now........

Didn't even bother checking the new hub 'hole depth', because the screw should snug up against the single 2mm inner bearing race before it bottoms out anyway.

I did check my original hub before and the hole was WAY deep, but like I say, it doesn't matter since the screw snugs up nicely against the inner race of the bearing. (Or in my case, bearingS, since I double-stacked the 2mm bearings in each grip with the small washer between...

But does your tail hold solid, or drift around?

In theory, unless your grip tightens down against the shoulder of the hub first, like mine did. Ideally, as you mentioned, the screw should tighten against the bearing inner race, which tightens against the hub. However, Align's blade grips have a tolerance problem as well, so that doesn't always happen. Instead, Align relies on a limited hole depth, or longer screw, to tighten things down. This prevents the hub from binding against the grip, but it's a lousy, inconsistent solution. Align needs to fix the blade grips, too, by making sure the bearing shoulder inside the grip is at the proper level (closer to the hub side), to prevent the grip from tightening against the hub and locking up.

I had one on my second kit do that. I just scraped the grip/bearing mating surface way down inside, slid the bearing back in, and it fixed it right up.

It does not appear to drift or wander at all so far, but have only flown it about 6 times. I may go ahead and cut the tail blades down. Did you cut the bat-man blades or straight blades down?

Thanks,
David

I did the batman curved blades first. Now I'm experimenting with the straight blades.

Im running the square ones cut down to 32 mm,stock gyro,i think you can get away a little shorter because the square blade is a little wider, moving more air...
