Talking Scorpion 2213-14 - Newbie Build

I have learned a ton in the last 3 months since getting into the hobby. I am an obsessive newbie that buys too much stuff! I was in the process of a 4503D FBL conversion when I decided - I wanted a 300X instead. I bought a BeastX-less 300X and started moving over parts.

  • I waited as long as I could for the Wicked motor but, ended up with a Scorpion HKII-2213-14 13T (recommendation and pinion as per xpantz and head speed aspiration as per Dylwad)
  • HK YEP45A ESC - (GOV Store/AFW settings and "yes - it'll fit" as per TomC).
  • MKS D92 Collective
  • Savox 0257 Tail
  • BeastX and Spektrum 6115E
  • Already installed CF Blades and Braces

I started the build last night and finished this morning. I watched tons of videos (several times) and read countless threads as I went along - being that I have never soldered, programmed an ESC, and previously had BeastX setup issues, etc. Thank to all who post!
  • Finless Bob Videos (How to Solder)
  • MrMel Governnor Programming Video
  • ALL of the BeastX Setup Videos
Long story short....IT FLEW! No issues, smooth as glass! I am a novice so, I will have to let someone push it hard but, it's done (for now).

Here are some pics.

Looks nice!! I'm a bit curious, though. Why did you choose that Savox servo for the tail. It's pretty slow for that application IMO, even at 6V, and much better suited to cyclics. Those DS92s would actually be good on the tail. Or so I would think.......

Nice 1 mate, I'm currently doing the same motor conversion, I'm going Hitecs 5065's & 5084 like om my 450x.

I went Icelite 50 ESC too.Like you I couldn't hold out any longer for Wicked even though I wanted one. Waiting for

sevo's and pinons is holding me up ATM. I'm impressed with the speed you done the build in, welldone.

What size pinion are you using. Did you find programming ESC fairly straight forward. I should get orgasnised

and learn a bit about the process while I wait for servos and pinions to arrive.

What is the beastX suck with on the back there, perhaps a cable tie for added security is worth considering. Top job.

It's been a while since I purchased the Savox. I read a lot of good reviews and then I used the advanced search here -> http://www.servodatabase.com/advanced-search and looked at servos on the BeastX servo list. Sorted for metal geared, good torque, speed at least 270 mhz in FBL setup, cheap, small, and reviews, and availability.

Thx. PS I will look at the tail servo again and address it once I can fly better.

I really wanted the Wicked! I'll probably still get one but, at least now I can stop refreshing the asteroid website and remove the email notifications for anything Wicked related! No kidding...it was my homepage for a while!

I went with a 13T rhino pinion since I had bought a 11,12,13 set for my 450. I might go to 14T once I get more comfortable flying.

I am using the 3M mounting tape for the BeastX. I'll throw on some velcro to secure it more - good recommendation.

ESC was a bit over my head so, I copied the settings from TomC. Once, I saw the video from MrMel and read the manual a few times I understood a lot more. The YGE programming card helped a lot!

Get organized, watch videos, and read the forums! I don't know all of the answers but, I know where to go to find answers and find even more questions!

There will be another stampede if the wicked shows up. I keep looking too.

Mines been doing ok since the snapped shaft. I've had about 40mins flying it in the last few days... I almost trust it again and might go back up to 3600.

Good luck with it. Nice work.
