Default Paint job that looks like real fire / an explosion

Hey guys, I've seen this done before and it looks great, but I can't find the pic anywhere! It may have been on an rc car forum. Anyhow, can anyone send me a link to such a pic and maybe a link on technique to accomplish the look? I've painted some nice custom rc truck bodies and want to try some heli canopies. The look I'm trying to achieve looks like real fire, not just a flame. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you check out CFXPaintworks.com, they have some great tutorials on setting things on fire. The site is run by a good friend of mine who's a tremendous painter. You'll find some awesome tutorials and see some very inspirational paint works. It's very heavy on the RC car theme, but you'll find lots of other stuff too.

Here is an example I painted while ago for a young pilot. "Stylished" real flame look using House of Kolor paint...

http://www.tiben.no/TibenDesign/Gall...C_Helis.html#4

Look on youtube for realflames to get the idea on how to lay down the colors.
Basic colors you need is:
Black for base... (BC25)
White base (BC26)
Molly Orange base
Chrome Yellow base
Apple candy red
Tangerine candy
Gold candy
And purple if you like to cool the licks of with some blueish color at the end..

Good Luck!

Regards

Lars

You mean something that looks a little like my post here?

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...153474&page=25

I am subject 'real flame/true fire paintjobs'

Any crits and comments are most welcome as I'm still new to this and learning all the time.
What is in these pics has taken about a year of working on the technique- can be frustrating but don't give up - If you think I can offer any advice on my thought process or how to achieve certain effects, please let me know I will try to help

all the best & good luck

Great flames Flydude. I've struggled for several years to get them as best I can, but they're not as good as yours.

Tiben those are really nice flames good work

I better get practicing!!

Since redundancy I am trying to turn this hobby into a job, can anyone suggest where else on Helifreak I might post an announcement that I am making and selling these things without annoying people?

Buckers, please run me through your final steps on the clear coat -as I find, no matter how flat I keep my paint job and how light my clear coats are, I ALWAYS get orange peel, even if only slightly - then what? do I cut and polish as the last steps or cut and try to spray a really smooth final coat which is then left alone? excuse my lack of knowledge of the clearcoat process, I never used to do this part when I was airbrushing way back when...

thanks
flydude

I use the airbrush for the clear, light coats, regular spray guns may be too heavy

Bear in mind I have seen many posts elsewhere that advise using at least HVLP size for topcoat as an airbrush will never do the wide coverage needed to get a smooth gloss shine - something I had to learn too!

Default latest sale

this is a trex600e pro cano, fire is coming on but for £60 per cano (all I can get due to the chinese decal "airbrushed" canos) there's not much in the way of profit, so moving to bikes & helmets soon I guess -- hhmmm...
