Default Winter Flight?

I've heard that the 1 cell lipos don't function properly in cold weather. Is it possible to setup the 120 so that it can be flown in cold temperatures (30s to 40s)?

The lipo will work, it was just have significantly lower capacity. Don't try to charge it while it is cold either. The plastic will become rather brittle as well.

30-40F isn't that cold. Just keep the lipo's in a warm spot until you are ready to fly. Worst case you will have slightly lower performance.

You can use a parallel battery link and use 2 600mah batteries to extend battery time. You will have to make your own or use one of the multi charge harnesses that came with battery pack deals on ebay.

Default winter flying

Hey man, I'm also from UT and I had my 120SR last winter. If you keep your lipo's inside before flying, that will help. But I think the best you can expect is about 3 minutes of outdoor flying. Some people have suggested ways to cover the batteries with foam padding or whatever to try keeping them warm longer. I thought that sounded like a P.I.T.A. so I just carried a handful of batteries in my pocket. Or there's a wardhouse with an indoor gym on almost every corner, right?

Flight times will be reduced in the outside colder weather.Find a high school gym to fly at night....

Hey biffstark. I'm down in South Jordan. The heavy winds down here make for some interesting flights with the 120! I like your pocket-full-of-batteries approach. I can deal with 3 minute flights.

It's cold enough to affect the efficiency of the batteries.

Those of us who have our 120srs' since last winter went thru all of this.
