Default CAN I DO AWAY WITH A 2 IN 1 burned up?

Recently before take off my 2 in 1 had a issue and melted one of the wires to the control unit and the lipo
became puffed in shape is there a way to do away with the 2 in 1? possibly using a ni mh battery?
i use a 401 gyro with 8717 on the head. I know that i could use a aux glowplug attached to the frame to ignite the glowplug wich would save some battery power. thank you for your help
Justin

since you already have a charger for the lipo, i'd go the lipo route. you can get regulators from either duralite or Fromeco

the charger i was using was a inexpensive dc lipo charger with no meter i am looking to upgrade to a better option. i was leaning toward nimh if possible but if li po is the way to go tell me i just want to fix the issues and be able to fly more than 2 flights on 1 battery what setups are others using? best quality? prices? that would greatly be appriciated thank you for your quick responces Justin

i would probably go with something like the following:

battery:
http://www.fromeco.org/Products/01FR...7/Default.aspx

regulator:
http://www.fromeco.org/Products/02FR.../Default.aspx\

Pin/flag switch:
http://www.fromeco.org/Products/02FR...1/Default.aspx
