+1 I'm still flying my 500 as an everyday flyer. In fact it's even a fly bar version, (my third). Just can't bring myself to change to flybarless as the original just has a particular feel that none of my other flybarless Helis have. It's nostalgic and since it's my everyday flyer, my thumbs really get a workout constantly. Love it.

I'll have to get a new one this year.

Default Protos 500 - I like to buy an UPDATE Kit to be able to use the new belt.

Amain is showing this OPTIONAL Stretch kit.

I am looking at the items in that stretch kit and I see that I really only need of few of them to get my Protos 500 up to date. It seems that I can just buy some of the pieces that is in the kit.

The kit looks like this.
(1) 470mm Stretch MSH Rotor Blade Set
(2) Stretch Tail Boom Brace
(1) Stretch Tail Control Rod
(1) Stretch Tail Boom
(1) Seeger RS 3.2 DIN 6799
(1) 2.5mm Drill Bit
(1) Drill Jig
(1) Stretch Y Support
(1) Stretch Belt
(1) 18T Aluminum CNC Tail Pulley
(1) 14T Motor Pulley
(2) Stretch Y Support Cross Brace
(1) Stretch Motor Adapter
(2) Tail Control Rod Fitting
(4) Brace Rod End
(2) Uniball L
(4) M2.5x12mm Hex Screw
(1) 1x6x0.2mm Washer
(2) M3x3mm Grub Screw
(4) 4x8x2mm Ball Bearing

but here is the real question .

Is there a " replacement" SKU to get the Protos 500 updated to the NEW belt and wherever else needs to be updated to use " the NEW belt" without adding any unnecessary items IE I do not want to have the stretch kit.?Is there a dealer somewhere that will put together a Short Stretch kit ( Pun intended) for me.

Is anybody doing that?? PM me with details please.

The old short booms and short belts are discontinued. All new protos 500 are long boom versions. They are not stretch blades though.

Not too sure that helps him out.

Harry, as I recall msh used to sell the kit two ways, one with blades and one without. I'm not too sure which parts come in the stretch kit you don't need but you'll probably need them all.

If amain carries the kit and it's a financial issue for you I'm pretty sure I have e a few 10% off coupons laying around I could probably help you out a little there.

Maybe just boom, belt, control rod would be enough to get going. I haven't flown a p500 since 2011 so I don't speak with much experience on this.

You only need belt, boom, control rod unless you move the servo way down the boom. The stretch kit has longer support booms, but doubt that's important enough to bother.

So play it safe and at least get the boom, belt and control rod. Only a few bucks.

Edit. Looks like short belt is around again. Unless it shows not available once you add it to the cart!

Harry,

I posted in your other thread as well, but in the case people find this thread later and have the same question, I'll copy the answer here:

Quote:
As far as I know the original "short" boom and belt were discontinued. All kits ship with the stretch boom and belt, but without the pinion adapter (or motor motor shaft), and without the Y brace.

I believe you want to run the newer (beefier) belt, but still fly with 430mm blades? That's absolutely an option. You need a parts list for it? I've provided links here.

New Belt: https://www.mshusa.com/collections/p...-belt-msh51323
Tail Boom: https://www.mshusa.com/collections/p...retch-msh51322
Tail Braces(not required, but recommended): https://www.mshusa.com/collections/p...races-msh51324
Tail control rod(not required, but recommended): https://www.mshusa.com/collections/p...l-rod-msh51325

You don't need the actual stretch kit, as it comes with the y-brace, shaft adapter and a pinion.

So, it is OK to run the stretch boom and belt on a plastic frame P500 if you stay with 430 blades?

Any idea when the main blade grip uni balls for the 500 will be in again? I think it's going on more than 1.5 months and they are out of stock.

Downtime for out-of-stock parts from MSH USA has typically been pretty short, but I can't speak for Alex regarding whether or not he's got more on the way yet.

Hi Thickfog, if you have a chance just email sales@mshusa.com about what your looking for, and some guidance can be given.

Which parts do you need for your Protos 500? I may be able to help you out. I will check my spare bags if you let me know which parts you need.

Nothing too soon. Stocking up on the grip uni balls. All i ever seem to break is the grips and/or uniballs and lower plate.
But if you don't fly ot anymore let me know what you have.

Yeah, I am still flying mine. Haven't had a crash for a while (The last crash was not so great, had to replace both main blades, tail case, boom and cracked canopy)

I will see if I have any extra uniballs lying around.
