Default Programming ESC

Just checked my ESC, it was set to

1. brake disabled
2. mid-timing
3. low voltage protection
**4. Normal airplane/glider
5. Standard mode

First of all, what kind of problems will setup #4 have (if any)?

Secondly, should I program #4 to helicopter mode 2? (without gov)

Thirdly, What would be the best program setup for someone who is just starting out. I can hover, fly
forwards, backwards, sideways.

I have stock V1-1.5 w/DX7, 401, 3400G

Any help would be appreciated

I use 1,2,2,1,3. I don't like softstart or gov mode so airplane mode works best for me. It runs good in airplane mode, it just doesn't have a soft startup or a gov to watch headspeed. It gives a nice linear throttle response that I can tune with my throttle curve. I tried the gov, but I prefer using a high flat throttle curve. I've used these same settings since I started.

Normal helicopter without governor will be soft start (I believe without going back and looking it up. If you jam the throttle up with soft start it will start slowly. This is to prevent stripping the gears or torquing the model around.

Personally I don't use soft start. I just bring the throttle up slowly. The result is that I can spool up faster then soft start. I don't think soft start causes any problems (unless it resets in an auto rotation) but I look at it like one more thing that can screw you up. When I first watched Bob's videos he didn't' use it on the Trex so I followed blindly. I still like it that way because I am used to it.

Some don't use a normal mode. They use throttle hold to stop and start the motor in idle up and depend on soft start to keep from tearing things apart on spool up. I use both throttle hold and normal mode with the throttle off before start up (when I plug in the battery) kind of like a safety.

Funky posted while I was working on mine.

I don't use governor either. Most don't think it works well on the Align ESC and robs power (and you don't need it as Funky stated). And Bob didn't like it back then on the old ESC (V1) so there you go. On some other brand ESC's it apparently works well.
