Shimming Main Shaft vertical play in Diabolo SE
Second time since the build I've found vertical play in the main shaft. Unless I am mistaken, I last placed the shim (0.2 mm) just below the upper bearing plate. Is this not an acceptable location to shim? Manual illustration isn't clear on where to place the shim...but it appears the intent is at either end of the main shaft spacer bush, D224. There is considerably more play after another two flights. Maybe 0.5mm.

Top and bottom are fine. It's fairly normal to get a tiny bit of play after the first couple of flights. Play around with the different thickness shims and try to get it as close to perfect without any "drag" tightness. Once it's set, you will never have to mess with it again, at least I have not on mine from 2013

I hope so. The flight performance is superb! But, after the last flight when carried it back to the table, I could feel the play.

So, I remembered incorrectly. I had, in fact, placed the shim at the bottom of the spacer bush. It required an additional 0.3mm for a total of 0.5mm to remove the play. I saw no evidence of any other problems.

I typically shim up top for ease of access. After one or at most two shim "events", it won't change again. About the only way to avoid having to reshim a brand new model is to very slightly overdo the shim to the point things just get slight draggy (NOT notchy!). It seats in from there. This was the guidance from Nick back when he flew for MC.

Thanks, Ben. I was expecting that before I would be able to discern draggy resistance, I'd have had problems getting the screws to go back into the bearing plate when re-assembling. But, it went back together perfectly. There was no binding, and currently no vertical play. If another adjustment is needed, I'll place one under the top bearing plate. That does prevent the need for spreading the frames to allow the main gear to clear.
