Thoughts on the 7HV so far
I've had the 7HV for about two and a half weeks now and passed 30 flights this weekend. Overall, I am enjoying the machine very much. How much exactly? Well, I've had a second 7HV kit siting on my dining room table for a few days now that will be getting built this week.*
This was by far the easiest helicopter build I had ever completed. With the very low parts count and frames already assembled in the box, the build was complete in under 7 hours. Everything went together quickly and easily. The manual wasn't stellar but was helpful. Te parts list book with exploded diagrams of all of the sub assemblies and full list of part numbers is awesome! This makes it very easy to find exactly the replacement part you need, without having to hunt to figure out which parts bag it might come in.* A lot of time was spent trying to clean up the wiring, which was a bit of a challenge because this machine doesn't have a huge amount of space to hide wiring like the 700E. A flybarless controller like the new AR7200BX or the mini vBar will really work well here. For my build I used a AR7100 and BeastX. I couldnt be more pleased with what I have seen so far of the flight characteristics. The 7HV feels very locked in through maneuvers, as well as giving crisp response to inputs. This machine is as close to flying the simulator as I have ever felt. It does precisely what I tell it to, and doesn't need a lot of corrections to keep it in line. It almost feels like cheating. This has been very confidence inspiring. Within my first two or three flights I already felt that I could fly the 7HV better than I could my 700E. Flight time is quite impressive. I can pull anywhere from 6-8 minute flights on this machine without overdischarging my 5000mAh packs. I set my timer to 7 minutes for practice flights, and frequently find I've only used 3300-3500mAh.* The machine does seem a little on the fragile side in some areas, but very strong in others. The upper frame area seems extremely well built and I am confident that all of this is going to hold up well in a crash. The lower frames on the other hand I managed to trash in a drop from about 15 feet. From what I have seen the tail rotor is a bit fragile also with thin plastic parts, and thin shaft and hub. Repairs are quick and painless though, and parts are priced well. My only concern is that I may be breaking more parts even on little crashes than what I was used to on my 700E.* In my opinion Compass has a winner with this helicopter! It's not perfect, but nothing really is. What it is though is for the most part very well engineered and a real pleasure to fly.

7HV #2 build almost complete :-)
Got the links on, head and tail built, servos centered and swash leveled. At this point the machine is basically complete from a mechanical standpoint. Tomorrow I'll just be tightening up some screws, and setting up the BeastX and ESC. Maiden flight Saturday morning!

Thanks! The sad part is this weekend is probably the best the weather is going to be for a few months. It kills me that I'm just a couple weeks in on a new helicopter and the season is coming to a close.

I'm in the same boat here. 4 flights on my 7Hv and she's hung on the wall, been snowing for 2 days here now. Not that it has changed things any, I'm pricing/specing an Atom 500 right now
