Sorry to all, we did wander off a bit! ?, Should have gone PM. But still a master class in Flybarless ?.
Waiting for the wind to drop to try revised setup with the V4.0. Though it looked that promising I've updated my 3GXs.

Had the 450 out for some hovers with 4.0. So far it feels more locked in than earlier versions. I'm liking it so far.

Correct.... Never change endpoints after you have completed setup... Very bad

Dang it.

I was hoping it would be the worlds most interesting man.

Maybe 5.0 will be better.

I've posted this in the other 3Gx thread (How is 3GX V4.0 performing for you?) but thought I'd post here also as there seems to be more 'traffic'....................

Guys/Gals,

For those of you wanting to change to DSMX (with 2 sats) and may have just skipped through the 3GX 4.0 wizard, just be aware of the slight change to the binding process to select either DSM2/DSMX protocol as follows:-
  • Obviously. select DSMX in your Tx > install bind plug.
  • If wanting to select DSMX -while holding the SET button down (Referred to as Bottom in the wizard) power up the 3gx.
  • Lights on the sats will fast flash- release set button.
  • Remove Bind Plug and continue with Tx bind/failsafe process.
  • You should now have DSMX wording on the top right of your LED screen in your Tx if done correctly(DX8)

I also noted some slight Cyclic 'jumping/twitching' with 4.0 while powered up but I also had some 'twitching' on the throttle engaging the motor every so slightly
No big deal, as it was so slight but un-nerving all the same.

Please feel free to add any info etc or indeed if you have found any other quirks.

Test flight tomorrow, weather dependent.

They also mention bluetooth again with a "soon to be released Bluetooth connectivity kit" and smartphone apps. Not holding my breath but would like to see it happen.

That's been there since the 3GX was released... it's been a little over 2 years now...

Arrow V4.0 nice try - but I don´t like it

Hi,
in the Moment 3GX Firmware V4.0 is that bad I´ll Change it tomorrow back from V4.0 to V3.1. I´ve tail wag with 2,400 rounds per Minute and a very instable tail after rudder movements. Furthermore on the ground the tail slider moves back into middle direction after a left or right rudder move and moving back of rudder stick in neutral position. This is a typical behavior in normal gyro mode but not in Heading hold. Probably I´ve other Problems with my T-Rex but the behavior of tail slider in V3.1 was more than expected in Heading hold than in new release 4.0

Default 3GX ver 4.0 dsmx satellite support

I read on the align site that ver 4.0 has dsmx satellite support. Has anyone updated and rebind to see if it defaults to dsmx instead of dsm-2? It would make it more secure.

Yes 3GX is now dsmx compatible but you do need to follow the new procedure listed above when binding.
I test flew V4 today for the first time on my 450 Pro and personally I loved it. Very stable, very responsive, better overall feel, especially when making hard collective changes.
I didn't notice any issues with tail wag, tilting or power draw using same settings I used on V3.1 apart from slightly different gain settings in the software.
It gets a big thumbs up from me anyway.

Question

Hi Dogcow,
because You like V4.0 would you check please the behavior I´ve described above? In Heading Hold and on the ground my tail slider moves always back from left/ right Limit to the middle Position and I think that´s not normal. Better said that´s the expected behavior in normal mode

I'm not really sure what your problem/issue is, but my tail has never been better or more stable than in V4. If you are asking about mechanically on the bench then it behaves the same as when it was on V3.1, it shouldn't do anything noticeably different on the bench from V3 or V4 unless I'm missing something?

My guess is that your issue with the tail is not related to 3GX V4 but possibly something in the mechanical setup that maybe V3 managed to hide and is more noticeable in V4? The rudder gain settings have been altered and redone by Align in V4, for me it works but not for everyone, some have needed to tweak their gain settings to get the tail to behave, all I did was use similar settings to the ones I used in V3.1 and that seemed to work.

On the bench, motor disconnected. Experiment with normal and iu FMs and see if the slider moves with the pitch. I had the same thing happen after an update, the slider would go to one side and as I moved the throttle it traveled with it and then went back to center position. Had to start from scratch with a reload of the firmware, rebind and go threw setup again.

I've had a servo twitching issue since V3.0, rolling back to 2.1 or unplugging the second dsmx satellite always fixed the problem. I tried V4.0 and i get the same twitch. Then i tried something a little different, i unplugged the 3gx from the computer and guess what... twitching gone !!! Plug the computer back in and the twitch comes back. At least now i can confidently use the new firmware.

Hi,
thank You both for Your helpful answers. I´ve deinstalled the 3GX V4.0 Software via Windows 8.1 System control. After restart of my Computer I´ve downloaded the 3GX V3.1 Software and installed it. Than I´ve switched my Receiver on, connected my Rex via 3GX-USB Interface with my Computer, powered on the Rex, started 3GX V3.1 Software and voilà... the tail slider has moved in heading hold mode as expected (without any tail servo twitching). Thought by myself: do it the same way with V4.0. So I´ve deinstalled 3GX V3.1 Software via System control, restarted the Computer, downloaded V4.0 again from ALIGN Homepage etc. and... the tail slider moves as expected in Heading hold without moving back into middle Position after turning the rudder stick back to neutral Position. I´ll do my check flights within the next days, but I´m afraid, that Í´m happy now with V4.0
